On November 3rd, Quawan "Bobby" Charles, a fifteen year old Black teenager, was found dead in a sugarcane field in Iberia Parish, Louisiana after going missing from his hometown of Baldwin, Louisiana. Though police have opened a homicide investigation, it is clear that more work needs to be done. The autopsy report claimed the likely cause of death was drowning, though the water he was near was only ankle deep, and the brutal wounds on Quawan's face show otherwise. The police refused to send out an Amber alert when Quawan went missing. The ACLU is now demanding an independent investigation into his death. The evidence points to a racially charged murder, and it is imperative that we bring Quawan, his family, and his community justice. Black lives matter and Quawan Charles's life mattered, justice for Quawan Charles!
