Chapter 26.1

The notorious Council Leader. Narinig ko na ang mga kwento tungkol sa kaniya, one of it being he's a genius at libangan nito ang mag-imbento.

"Can we meet him so that we can ask of his progress as for the cure?" tanong ko.

"Meet him?" ulit ng kausap ko, natatawa na naiinis ang tono. "Good luck with that! That's what I've been trying to do for years. Ngayong taon, isang beses pa lang siyang nagpakita. I was about to drag him into a cell and imprison that fucker until he finally develop my cure but he went poof," pumitik si Wirron Oleander, "And like a genie in a magic lamp, great Council Leader is gone, and we haven't seen him since." Nagkatinginan kami ni Kaizon. "He's evasive. Nagpapakita lang 'yon kung trip niya."

"How can he disappear like that?" tanong ni Kaizon.

"I don't know, magic, probably."

Napakunot ang noo ko. It's hard to deal with magic. Magic couldn't be explained. Saka kung tama ang sinasabi ni Wirron Oleander na resulta kami ng mga experimento ng Council Leader, isn't that science?

"I'm really busy, children, and I feel like I'm about to snap any moment." Ngumisi ito sa amin at ipinakita ang mga humahabang pangil niya. "I might end up eating all three of you alive, so, bye now." biglaang paalam ni Wirron Oleander at akmang isasara na ang pinto.

"Sorry." Kaizon doesn't look he's sorry.

"Ask now! Hurry!"

"Kilala mo ba kung sino ang pumatay sa mga werewolves natin?"

Wirron Oleander laughed. "Don't include me. I'm forbidden to be bias to any pack." Lumibot ang tingin niya sa aming tatlo. "Reka is a sadist." komento ni Wirron Oleander sa sarili at napatawa muli. He sounded honestly amused this time.

"Sometimes, we don't have a choice but to choose the lesser evil, eh?" dagdag ni Wirron Oleander. I tried to decipher what he's trying to say but failed. "I understand how that feels." With that, he closed the door.

May nalalaman siya. May alam ang buong Council at isa ito siguro sa mga rason kung bakit ayaw nila kaming i-entertain kanina.

But why still send us on a mission when they already know the culprit?

"We should hurry outta here." mutawi ni Alekxus at nauna na itong lumabas ng gate. "Let's not waste time on ancient people who couldn't give straight answers."

"Alekxus Oxalis." tawag ni Kaizon.

"Oh?" sagot ni Alekxus, saglit na napahinto.

"Maliban sa usapan tungkol sa misyon natin, the rest are confidential. Don't disclose."

I was just about to inform Alekxus pero naunahan na ako ni Kaizon.

Alekxus just snorted at nagpatuloy sa paglalakad. "Wala akong interest sa personal mong buhay, old man."

Sinusundan muli namin ang tracks ng mga biktimang werewolves nang biglang nagsalita si Kaizon, "Oxalis heir, I don't know if it's just me..."

"I'm sure it's just you." agarang sagot ni Alekxus. Pinagsamaan ko siya ng tingin.

Why can't they just work together without taunting each other?

Napahinga na lang ako ng malalim at ako na ang nagtanong, "Ano 'yon, Kaizon?"

"Sa tracks na tinahak natin, kahit dito sa track ngayon, there's this unique scent on these areas."

"Rotten orange?" kumpirma ni Alekxus, a serious expression on his face.

Tumango si Kaizon. Unlike them, I don't have an improved sense of smell.

That scent isn't a good sign and could just possibly be added on our growing list of suspects.

"Rogues." saad ko.

Crazed werewolves.

Syempre, wala silang hesitasyon na pumatay. Palaging nangunguna ang rogues sa listahan ng violators ng batas ng Council and the justification is simple.

Rogues are insane. Bloodlust has overtaken them. They are no longer conscious as they once were. Turning rogue is considered as an incurable disease. Apat na bagay lang ang ginagawa nila...kill, eat, fuck, and then repeat, and sometimes, they won't even follow that sequence.

"Possibleng rogues ang pumatay sa mga tauhan ko." dagdag ni Kaizon.
