Drew's Point of View

In life, there are some things you will never learn until you experienced them yourself. This includes stealing food from your childhood best friend. Because the second you took what doesn't belongs to you, you are doomed.

"May, I said it already. I am sorry. I shouldn't take your sandwich. I will buy you a new one, okay? Don't be angry. You will get old earlier," I said as I walked beside May, trying to calm her anger while she was speed walking away and facing away from me.

May Maple is my childhood best friend. She is the eldest daughter of Norman Maple and Caroline Maple, the power couple who own the top industry in technology. She is the princess of the family, yet a foodie. Her family and my family had known each other for ages since our mothers used to be high school best friends. When we were born, we always played together. We would have sleepovers, go to the same schools, play with the same toys, and more. We basically know each other from head to toe and each other's flaws. However, as we grew older, we began to keep a distance between us, since we are of different genders. We are still friends though, just not as close as before. The distance between us widens during high school when she began to have her own group of friends and I have mine. There were only a few times and situations when we are close and having fun together.

I am getting a bit frustrated at May's childishness. All I did was take one of her sandwiches, and then I become the villain. Wasn't that too cruel? I stride toward May, wrap my arms around her waist, and held her up.

"Hey! What are you doing?! Put me down! Put me down!" May screamed as she hit me on my arm.

I laughed as I twirled her around. "No way. Forgive me, and I will let you down," I bargained with a smile.

"Forgive you? Forgive you? No way! You stole my sandwich, and you want me to forgive you!" May exclaimed as she tried to glare at me.

"Hmm... then how about this? You forgive me, and I will let you down. Not only that, I will treat you to the cafe this afternoon?" I said with a smile.

May stopped struggling for a bit and think about my offer before she nodded. "Okay. Since this princess is in a nice mood right now, I will reluctantly forgive you," she said.

I laughed out loud and squeezed May. "What do you mean you will reluctantly forgive me? I think I am the one with more loss than gain here. I have to pay for your forgiveness with food, and all I took away from you is a sandwich. Where did all the fat you eat go?" I asked jokingly.

May growled in response. "Are you trying to say that I am fat? Let me tell you, sir. I use up more calories than I gain, okay? So do me and you a favor, and stay quiet. No one wants to hear lowering other people's self-esteem. And besides, who made me your friend?" May said.

I nodded in response. "I wonder that sometimes as well." I placed her back to the ground and took her bag from her hands, like a gentleman and a best friend should.

"I want the bilayer chocolate cake with strawberries and milk tea. I heard that the cake is very delicious. I haven't had the chance to taste it yet, but I believe that it would be heavenly," May said, skipping down the path to school since the both of us eat outside the school. May is always the same. She would be the one who gets angry at me first yet also the first to forgive me. She is very easy to get satisfied.

"I got it. I will make sure you are fed extra well," I laughed.

"Don't laugh at me," May said, glancing at me.

"I know I am handsome, but please don't sneak glances, or else I will feel very conscious about myself," I teased, giving May a wink, which caused her to turn red before looking away from me. I laughed at her reactions. At times like this, May can be very cute.

"Go flirt with your girlfriend, would you? Seriously, I am getting tired of this," May muttered with displeasure.

"I am sure you don't mind as much as you said you do mind, May. And besides, are you not my girlfriend?" I asked with a smirk on my face.

May looked at me, unimpressed before looking in front of her. "Tell that to your future girlfriend and she will dump you faster than you said 'date'. Don't go and play my words on me. I am your friend, and I am a girl. But, I am not your girlfriend," May explained.

"Don't need to explain it to me, May. I am not the one who will misunderstand you," I joked.

We walked together into the school and continued to talk as we went to our class. Along the way, students greeted us. I missed days like this, where we would just talk without worries and just have fun. Unfortunately, in high school, everything we do will be observed by our peers and will impact us in some way, especially when they expect something from us. I know that May is very popular in school with her carefree style, great fashion, kind personality, and is beautiful, but sometimes it annoyed me. They didn't know the real May Maple, as I do. With her stupidity, I am worried about who her future partner is. They may use May for their own benefits or illegal purposes. But it is okay. At the end of the day, I am still May's best friend, after Misty, Dawn, and Leaf. I will make sure to keep her safe and happy, as I always do, even though she can be a bit demanding and childish sometimes.
