Shortly after grabbing two plastic bottles from the recycling bin in the kitchen, I spun on my heels and made my way upstairs. It was a warm Saturday and I was currently at Odette's house. Ms Loyola gave us a project and I ended up being partnered with Odette.
Life.
The project was supposed to convey a message that influenced a positive mindset; which would lead to a positive impact. It was probably our last project for the year, so we had to make it to the best of our abilities. We had decided to put our differences aside for this.
I almost fell at the foot of the stairs but managed to regain my stability. Going up the stairs, I turned to my left and entered Odette's bedroom. Kaitlyn and Naomi were doing their homework on the bed whilst Odette was taking out the tools and materials we would need for the project. The girls always did their homework in each other's company, at least that was what Naomi told me.
We had decided to convey a message about littering. So, basically, the whole idea was to glue different materials on the poster board. The materials included pieces of papers, plastics, boxes and so on. I thought it was a pretty good idea.
I put the bottles on the desk and we began working on it. It was silent in the room.
Several minutes later
"I feel sorry for you guys. You know you can make one about shoes, right?" Kaitlyn suggested out of nowhere and I stared at her incredulously. "I mean, people need to understand the importance of shoes. Where would we be without them? Shoes are really important in our lives," she elaborated.
"I confronted our teacher about it and she told me we would get a big F if we did that. Trust me, I tried to convince her," Odette sighed as she glued the materials to the circular board. We wanted to make a 3D model of the Earth but settled with a 2D one instead.
"There's enough plastic. Let's add something else," I told her when I noticed she was getting carried away and she rolled her eyes.
"Ugh! This is so hard," Naomi groaned and she threw her pencil across the room, almost hitting me in the face. She looked at me apologetically after realising what she did, ignoring Kaitlyn's laughs.
"I'll be back," Odette said and slipped out of the room.
"Is there anything I can help with?" I asked Naomi while standing at the foot of the bed, unaware of which subject she was working on. She nodded profusely and exhaled as she showed me her calculus homework. I scratched my head and analysed the problems.
"I don't think I know how to solve these," I admitted and her face fell.
"You don't know how to solve your problems. I wonder what made you think you could solve this one," Kaitlyn chimed in.
"Just keep quiet, Lyn. You're not needed in this conversation. And I'm nicely saying this," Naomi said and turned to me. "I know you do Statistics but are you sure you can't help?"
These were two different subjects and she was asking me to help?
"Fine. I'll try," I said and she smiled widely. This wasn't wise, and we were both aware.
Odette came back when I was in the middle of assisting Naomi. The problems were doing some real butt-kicking. This was the reason why I went with statistics. I needed to recharge my brain before it could temporarily shut down and wondered if Odette had Oreos lying around.
"I brought refreshments," Odette said as she handed glasses of lemonade to her friends. She noticed me looking at her expectantly and smirked. "I'm sorry but seems like I ran out of lemonade. And these biscuits are only enough for three people."
