Same night

"How did you guys get in here?" Levi asked while clutching his chest with his hand. He had just returned from Debbie's house and found Nico and Jesper sitting in his living room with anticipating expressions.

"Your mother obviously," Nico deadpanned.

"Yeah. Right," Levi sighed.

"So how did it go? Did she say yes?" Jesper asked and this made Nico's previous expression return.

Levi remembered what happened to him twenty minutes ago. It had taken him close to ten minutes to finally get into his car and to stop staring at her house. He couldn't believe she rejected him. He tried but he just couldn't.

I'm sorry...

Those words circulated and echoed in his mind. In his point of view, he thought the kiss was amazing and maybe it would change her mind. But, clearly, it didn't. So what was he to do now?

Levi smiled wider than he had ever before and sat down next to Nico. Meaning Nico was sandwiched between his friends.

"Are you gonna say something or not?" Jesper asked as he looked at his friend's unusual smile.

"Yes. She said yes," Levi answered as he craned his neck to meet the gazes of the two.

"You see. We told you there's nothing to worry about. Debbie's a cool girl," Jesper said with a nod.

"Yeah, there was absolutely nothing to sweat over," Nico voiced as he patted his friend on the back and Levi's face immediately changed. He looked frazzled, to say the least.

Levi patted Nico's back quite hard and said, "You, how dense can you be? After all that's happened you expected her to say yes?" he asked, disbelieving. It was like somebody had pushed him into the light all of a sudden. "Of course she didn't agree!"

"Eehh! That wasn't what we expected," Jesper commented as his face fell.

"Imagine how I reacted when she told me that," Levi breathed out as he leaned back into the couch.

"So you're gonna give up just like that?" Nico queried.

Levi shot him a face and later shook his head, feeling more than exhausted. "I guess it's safe to say I don't know."

"You guys are a weird pair but either way, Levi is not someone who's known to give up easily," Nico said with pursed lips. In his mind, he was thinking about his suit for tomorrow's funeral, wondering if it had been delivered to his house yet. It wasn't his funeral but it didn't mean he didn't need to be the one with swag and style.

"You're right," Levi declared.

Debbie's POV

Monday

"You guys are too much. And I don't know if I wanna stay in this group anymore. You're being counterproductive," Naomi said to her friends, noticeably exasperated by the whole situation. "When are you guys gonna let Debbie sit with us, hm? She's a nice soul once you get to know her. This system of yours that you don't wanna give up is the very reason behind this behaviour," she continued to which her friends dramatically gasped.

I was standing a short distance away from them with a tray of food in my hands. Naomi had a class after lunch while I didn't so we thought this was the perfect time to hang out. She wouldn't be coming to school tomorrow because her timetable indicated she didn't have an exam to write.

"We've been like this since kindergarten," Odette pointed out.

"Well then, we should accept change," Naomi countered. I didn't want them to stop being friends because of me. I was certain Odette and Kaitlyn would label me as a friendship wrecker when telling stories to their kids. I didn't want to be recognised as a villain in any story.
