If you asked Fred Weasley and Y/N Y/L/N what they'd be doing May 1998, they would have replied with something along the lines of moving in together, planning for their future, or possibly thinking about starting a family. Neither one of them would have answered with fighting in a war, yet that's where they found themselves.

When Albus Dumbledore was killed and the secret of the horocruxes got out, they knew the plans they had made for starting their lives together had to be put on hold. Y/N was Fred's world, but they both understood the gravity of their situation.

So Fred Weasley didn't pick out an engagement ring, he and Y/N didn't start looking for a flat to share, they put their life on hold and devoted their time to the Order. They spent months with George, hiding out in safehouses and praying to Godric their families were okay. Months of silence from the other Weasleys and the trio eventually led them to the Battle of Hogwarts.

Y/N was grateful for her boyfriend, his boyish charm and humor kept her sane in the months her thoughts got the best of her, it was the reason she knew he was the one for her. And when Fred could no longer uphold the faux positivity, Y/N was there for him to lay his head in her lap as she lulled him to sleep.

They fought side by side, watching each other's back for death eaters and calling out shots to keep each other from getting hurt.

"Stay close." He'd muttered to her before all hell broke loose.

She had squeezed his hand in hers and pulled him in for a long kiss, one filled with as much love as they felt for one another as they both knew there was a possibility that it would be the last time they felt each other's soft lips and warm embrace.

As true to character as Fred and George could be, they remained the comedic relief of even the most terrifying of times, their adrenaline coming out in harsh blows and humorous one liners as they shot down death eater after death eater.

"Watch your back!" George had shouted, shooting a spell behind his brother as Fred ducked his head.

They were able to maneuver around one another with ease, knowing each other's heads like their own, which they practically were. It was refreshing to see in such a dust ridden, bloody battlefield.

Over the years, Y/N had become a part of that, being able to read the two twins quite easily. They were the best of friends before she and Fred got together in their sixth year, and it was something they carried into adulthood.

Their quick maneuvers fueled their adrenaline, allowing them to whiz by each other and strike down anyone who dared to fire at the other two. The best way for them to think of it was a game with an objection: save your friends.

That objection soon expanded to more than just the trio as they heard the scream of Ginny from across the castle. The two brothers locked eyes for a fleeting moment, instantly reading each other's minds as the panic of their sister sunk in their stomachs.

"Get Ginny!" Fred rushed out, firing his wand behind George as he caught his attention.

George didn't reply with words before his long legs were racing across the hallway, trusting Fred and Y/N to have his back as he took off towards his little sister.
