"what can i get you today?" jayda asked the couple sitting in the corner booth. the man and woman answered, and she left them to refill another's coffee mug.

jonah entered the diner like he did every morning, and sat in a different spot than usual. he picked to sit the bar of the small restaurant.

jayda gave the kendra the order and went to serve him with a big smile. he always brightened up her days with his little notes.

"hi jonah!" she greeted, standing behind the counter.

"hi jayjay!" he replied. "i can call you that right?" jonah blushed, suddenly getting embarrassed. jayda blushed as well, nodding. she took his order and gave it to kendra.

"thanks jayjay!" kendra teased with a twinkle in her eye. jayda just rolled her eyes and went to give the first couple their food.

as she walked over to the table, two girls entered the diner. jayda knew exactly who they were, kimberly eleanor smith and chloe rose collins. she suddenly dropped one of the dishes, and it crashed to the floor. kimberly and chloe giggled, and sat in a corner booth. on the other hand, jonah arose quickly from his chair and went to help the deaf girl.

"s-sorry about that." jayda mumbled to the couple, bending down to pick up the broken dish. the man grumbled, but she didn't know. she noticed a hand as it came to help her.

"i got it." jonah spoke as she looked up and read his lips.

"um t-thank you." jayda replied, still very flustered. she served the first dish quickly and went back into the kitchen.

jayda slid down the wall by the lockers in the back of the diner, trying to calm down. she wasn't expecting to see kimberly and chloe there, and she was even more shaken up after dropping the plate.

kimberly and chloe were her high school bullies, teasing and picking on her to no end. jayda despised them, and they, her.

jonah cleaned up the broken plate and food, and went into the back of the restaurant. he threw it in the garbage, and explained to kendra what had happened.

"where is she by the way?" jonah asked the red head.

"i don't know." kendra frowned. "maybe check by the lockers in the back?" jonah nodded. he left and found jayda right where kendra suspected.

the girl was sitting with her head in her hands, blocking out all light. jonah slowly slid down the wall next to jayda, but didn't touch her for fear of scaring her. she gently rested her head on his shoulder, and the two sat there for a while.

after a few minutes, she looked up and took a deep breath. after whispering a quick 'thank you' to jonah, jayda got up and continued to serve the customers.

-

"so chloe and kimberly came today?" kendra grimaced. jayda nodded after reading her lips and sighed.

"i made a fool out of myself."

"no you didn't." kendra shook her head and put a hand on her brunette friend's shoulder.

"yes i did." jayda quickly got up, called timber, and exited the building.

-

jayda laid down in bed, emotionally exhausted from the day. she set jonah's note on her nightstand, and slowly went to sleep.

'your hand looks heavy, can i hold it for you?'
