"Is that freedom an inconvenience?" - BAEKHYUN, "Get You Alone"
"Do you think this time, the book won't give me something to fight over?"
"I mean... the princes are constantly fighting over you- so, I think there's no getting out of the "fighting" theme of the story." Sitting next to Seungwan on the steps of the front palace, we open the book to where we left off: After the battle.
"The female warrior had created victory for the princes- who still love her so dearly. The people cheer in almighty delight as the Crown Princess stares at her in happiness, adoring her. If only the female warrior realized such- maybe things wouldn't have gone wrong.
Time was ticking, her misfortune would soon catch up to her. However, with her sword in hand, as she walks away with her best friend- her head spins across the possibilities. Could she really leave with the second title that she beholds so much? It's been years since they last saw her, too... that even the prince doesn't recognize her.
So, all she can do is wait. However, the more she idles by, the more that things will become worse. So, it's time to talk to the princes. It's time to see how they feel- how they are before something reckons upon their world. She has to help them... or else it will only hurt them if she doesn't.
Because in the end, the female warrior couldn't stop one thing: the unfortunate loss of the things they treasure most."
I gaze up at Seungwan, who widens her eyes. "What do they mean we're going to lose something? How close is it? How far away?" Seungwan sighs in stress, shaking her head. "Joseon just keeps getting worse."
"It's my fault. I have really bad luck- so it must've come with me when I came from Seoul." I scratch my nape, licking my lips. "It's okay, I'll talk to the princes and see if I can get any hints on what happens. If I do, I'll report back to you."
"Don't worry about it- things happen for a reason, we can't do much if the worse truly becomes worse. So, just follow the book and make good decisions-" Seungwan halts, looking at the blue sky. "Nevertheless, none of this is your fault. You wished on a shooting star- and with that small chance of coming true, it certainly did."
"Yeah, but replace shooting star with a given fortune cookie. I guess it follows its name," I joke, shaking my head. "I just hope it's not severe to the point that they all become so hurt by it. Their mental health comes before anything, you know?"
"With your words, you probably just jinxed it."
"Woops, sorry..."
"It's okay, at the end of the road, there's always a chance to turn back and find a new path." Seungwan makes a quote for herself, and I can't help but chuckle at the most iconic line that'll ever leave her mouth. "That's why the princes have you, to be their anchor even in the most terrible time. While not all four may be in this love square, you have three princes that would take an arrow to the chest for you."
"And who are they?"
"Why, they're the ones that seem to cling onto you the most- and the one that has surrounded you with proper kindness- unlike the youngest and oldest." I already knew she meant Eunwoo, but even so, he still loves Sana. He might say it was in the past— consider it past tense— but if he can make room for me, that means his heart still has that piece that still loves her elegance. "Chanyeol, Eunwoo, and Yeonjun are fighting for your love, yet you only have one man in your heart. When you will make the move to finally tell the butterfly boy that you're in love with him?"
"Over my dead body. How can I love someone that I'm going to ruin by the end of this?"
"I mean... you are changing fate, so as long as he doesn't figure out who and what your real identity was, you can love each other and be placed in the history books as a Crown Prince who refused to love his Crown Princess and fell for his concubine-"
"You're forgetting the fact I have to leave somehow," I interrupt, making her sigh and nod. "That'll be more depressing knowing the fact we've fallen in love. Yeonjun will feel betrayed by me knowing that I can't stay- and on top of that, he'll never be able to love me if he knew I was going to ruin his dynasty."
"Right..." Seungwan sighs, shaking her head. Covering her face, she fixes her hair. "Nevermind that for now. Go enjoy yourself, I think Seungcheol just came back from the plaza."
"It feels weird to call the center of Joseon the plaza."
"Right?" Seungwan chuckles. I get up, waving over to Seungcheol to whom Seungwan was correct- he had just entered the palace gates, swinging his sword around. Whistling softly, his head suddenly twists our way, his hands waving in a happy flail in the air. "There's the man. Seungcheol is a family person, so he'll probably talk to you about family affairs or historians."
"Youra, Seungwan Nu-i," The boy bows politely, wrapping his arm around my shoulder. "What are you both chatting about? Can I join in? Is something secret happening? Where-"
"I'm just leaving, so take Youra and your chattery self anywhere around the palace," Seungwan helps herself off of the steps, wiping down her clothes before bowing towards us. "Have fun with him, Youra. Trust me, he's a talkative fellow- so enjoy it for a few minutes."
"I'm not that talkative, Seungwan. I just like talking, you know. I feel like people need some happiness in their life, so I bring it to them. If you're silent all your life, you become sad-"
"Which proves my point," Seungwan chuckles, shaking her head before she walks away. Seungcheol and I laugh at each other, walking inside the palace.
"Anyway, how do feel being a female warrior of Joseon?"
"It's... nice, I guess."
"I definitely think when they come home from their trip, they will love you even more than they do now!" Seungcheol exclaims, clapping with the brightest smile on his face. "In fact, they're coming home early. I heard from some traveler that there was some trade to do, so they're on the way back now."
"That's nice. At least they'll be safe..." I respond, feeling the baby-hairs of my neck straighten. Something didn't feel right with their appearance.
"...I hope..."
