Akrasia
- Being able to act against your better judgement; lack of self-control✦✦✦✦
The Easter holidays were right around the corner which also meant the twins birthday, Lynnea was not going to get them anything big, a little gag gift maybe. Her brother had recently turned twenty-one and she had just gotten him a set of work clothes since his last ones had gotten destroyed in some way he would not tell her about.
Lynnea was sitting with George in the Astronomy tower. The Ravenclaws were trying to read up on their O.W.L's either sitting in their common rooms or the library. There were only a few months until their exams and the results would determine which subjects they could continue with to N.E.W.T level.
"Fred's been acting weird around me lately" She stated after there had been some silence between them.
"He doesn't want to talk about it, I've tried." George sighed and looked out over the grounds and the great lake, supporting himself on the palm of his hands.
"The Shrieking Shack?" She questioned and looked back up at him, she was lying on her side with her head in his lap. George nodded as a response.
"Have you tried telling him?" Lynnea continued.
"First thing I did when we got back"
"He's being a dick"
"He's still my brother, he's just having a rough time"
"Let's not talk about Fred right now. Do you think you'll win over Slytherin next Saturday?" Lynnea turned her head to look back out over the lake, birds flying past the railing.
"Yeah I think we should be able to win the cup, you would've probably won if your team hadn't been that unlucky. You're a great chaser, Ilves."
"Also a better beater than you." She laughed and he nudged her shoulder while chuckling, running his hand through her hair at the same time.
"Maybe better than Fred, but can't be better than me"
"George we need to start-" Fred's voice sounded when he entered the room, what annoying timing.
"Done with Owen and back to Georgie are we, Ilves?" He asked when he saw the two of them together. George had a hurt look on his face and Lynnea sighed.
"Fred." The two of them had been over this stuff before and Lynnea started glaring at him.
"Fine, let's go, George." He gestured towards the exit and George shyly glanced at her. Lynnea gave a reassuring nod and George hugged her before jumping down the stairs after Fred who had already left.
Lynnea sat back down, dangling her legs over the edge and resting her head on the metal railing in front of her. Fred was acting weird again and she hated it, why could they not just be friends Sure it might be a gross realisation to him but he had been acting like a git for weeks now. Lynnea felt the short burst of anger flare up inside her, what a dumbass.
Instead of savouring in the flames eating at her insides, she forced her mind to drift elsewhere. The book her parents had given her for Christmas was finally starting to make sense. It seemed to be from the 12th century so the language was more than a little difficult to understand but she was slowly making her way through it. The book had a large part of it dedicated to research about sacrificial protection which was interesting, to say the least, but it was complicated and the book gave more questions than answers.
