I ran to Abraham's side, determined to be with him in the way that I couldn't be for my father. I held his hand as he struggled with each breath he took. I kept telling him that everything was going to be alright, he just had to hang on. Steve kneeled down next to me, not knowing what to do to help. With his last breath, Abraham pointed to Steve's heart and I knew he was trying to tell Steve to stay a good man.

Steve looked down and closed his eyes as I saw Peggy chase the shooter out of the building. He looked over at me, still holding Abraham's hand with tears in his eyes.

"Go get him Steve," I said as I refused to leave Abraham's side. He gave me a kiss on the cheek and took off after Peggy and the shooter.

As I watched Steve run out of the building, I could feel blood start to seep in to my clothing. Howard came over and sat down next to me.

"Come on Kimberly, you have to let him go now. The nurses are going to take care of him now."

I shook my head and held on to Abraham tighter not wanting to let him go. He was the second father figure that had been taken from me by Hydra and letting him go would make it all real. Col. Phillips walked over to me and placed his hand on my shoulder. I looked up at him to see emotion on his stern face for the first time.

"It's time to let him go Kimberly. But I will make sure that he is treated like the hero that he is."

I don't know if it was the colonel calling me by my first name for the first time, the kindness in his voice or the tears that were in Howard's eyes, but I finally let go of Abraham's hand. As the nurses took his body away, I fell in to Howard's arms and cried.
