True silence....

Night fell slowly, the darkness seeping into everything like the plague, dimming the noise and movement as they started to sleep. Everything became still, everything became quiet, the people stopped walking around for him to observe. Shou sighed slightly as he leant against the window, chin resting in one hand as he clicked his tongue slightly, eyes narrowing in dissapointment at how utterly uninteresting they were. There was no drunken brawls, no criminals prowling the streets, no entertainment at all. They just slept, leaving him without anything to observe. Even the darkness seemed immobile, the shadows all being completely and utterly ordinary as they remained stationary, refusing to dance or move as they usually did.

Behind him in the room, the two criminals slept, their breathing even as they lay, ready to alert at the slightest sign of danger due to years of honed instincts, neither of them bothered like the boy. His smile twitched as he glared at the moon that was so tauntingly white, as though hoping it would communicate with him as his rinnegan eyes fixed upon it accusingly, as though he blamed it for his predicament.

It was boring. It was so boring. And he hated boredom.

He wanted to see blood.

Itachi's eyes snapped awake at the sound of movement, scanning the room for danger, only to land upon the boy sitting in the corner, head in hands as he glared up at the moon, his posture screaming of boredom and irritation, swaying slightly every now and again. Silence continued for a long, painful amount of time before the boy spoke, his voice alow, inaudible whine in the silence that passed through like an illusion:

"Meanie...."

At this proclamation, Itachi raised his eyebrow fractionally, confusion as to who he was addressing settling in as he observed the boy for more remarks.

None came.

The silence coated everything like frost, both sharpening and dulling it's surroundings in the process, creating a paradox as it screamed, begging to be broken. Begging for salvation. It seemed to claw at him, desperation powering it untill it grew and grew and grew to the point it was a constant hum i his ears, never breaking, never ending- persistent to the point it was maddening. And he gave in. Which is why his voice cut through the silence in a soft question, only one word used:

"Who?"

The boys eyes seemed to light up at his utterance, his head tilting to the side ever so slightly as he made a humming sound, creating the illusion of thoughtfullness before he lifted one arm up, slowly raising it up and up and up until it was pointing straight up into the sky- straight at the moon. Itachi's eyes remained focused on the figure of Shou, perplexed as he spoke again:

"Why?"

A brief, contemplative moment passed before he recieved a response, the boys voice impossible to interpret behind the seeming constant smile he wore, a hint of amusement playing in the the words baffled the two listening:

"They're refusing to talk to me."

Long, drawn out seconds passed unobstructed by words or movement before the boy turned, his eyes focusing on the Uchiha with an uncomfortable scrutiny that hid beneath his smile as he simply stared at him for the duration of several long seconds before he finally spoke, his voice slow and rythmic like a prayer:

"Do you like the moon?"

Itachi blinked, his mind considering this question carefully, oh so carefully. There seemed to be underlying meanings beneath the seemingly innocent words, only to find himself unable to find it. He couldn't understand it. So he simply nodded. At his response the boys smile grew wider, his purple eyes dancing with amusement, mirth and a variety of emotions he couldn't interpret as his body began to sway again, seemingly satisfied by the reply. Suddenly, he spun around with a laugh, his eyes once again staring outside, only this time he was humming slightlyas he observed the world beyond the window. Itachi's eyes watched him for a few moments longer before he shook his head in bewilderment, settling back down as his eyes closed in preperation for sleep, his thoughts on the boy with a slight renewal.

Maybe... maybe he was not a complete threat...

The boy giggled as he rocked back and forth, his eyes staring up at the moon with barely contained mirth as he spoke, his voice a light laugh as he said:

"He likes you as well."

....when it drives you mad.
