Lunariss was busy browsing her tablet for some news when she felt somebody sit with her on her table.

"I thought I'd find you here."

She shrugged while still busy browsing on her tablet. "Well, you found me."

Nang hindi ito sumagot ay nag-angat siya ng tingin. There he was, sitting across her, the handsome and the famous neurologist, Lake Marasigan.

He looked serious. "May dalaw ka ba?" Tanong niya bago ibinalik uli sa tablet ang tingin niya.

"You're a doctor. You know know that's impossible."

Ibinaba niya ang tablet. "Chill. It was a joke. May atraso ba ako sa iyo?"

Sumandal ito sa upuan at bumuntong-hininga. "Sorry. I...I lost a patient yesterday."

Nakonsensiya naman siya. Tumikhim siya at palihim na sinenyasan ang isang nagse-serve na dalhan siya ng usual order ni Lake.

"I'm sorry to hear that," she sincerely said. Pagdating sa usaping doktor, isinasantabi niya ang galit niya sa binata. Kaya siguro medyo nangingitim ang ilalim ng mga mata nito. At nag-drive pa ito pa-Baguio. "Care to tell me what happened?"

"I have a seven year old patient. He was a happy boy. Everytime we'll have a check-up, he's always excited because in his mind, he's a step closer to recovering. He told me the things he'll do the moment he's well. He told me his dreams. He told me how much he loves his father. He told me how strong his faith is. We became friends, Luna." Tumikhim ito. "His father...was a jeepney driver. He only has so much to make his son live."

She also had some pro-bono cases. Galing siya sa hirap at kahit hindi man niya naranasan ang magmakaawa sa doktor para lang pagalingin ang mahal niya sa buhay, she knew how to feel with her patients.

Lake continued. "Sinabi ko sa kanya kung gaano ka-delikado ang operasyon. He might lose his only son. His only family. Sinabi ko sa kanya na mababa ang tsansa na mabuhay ng normal uli ang anak niya oras na maging matagumpay ang operasyon. Sabi ng tatay niya, 'basta gawin niyo ang makakaya niyo. Kung hindi pa siya babawiin ng Panginoon, eh 'di salamat. Pero kung kukunin na niya ang anak ko, magpapasalamat pa rin ako sa iyo kasi pinahaba mo ang panahon na kasama ko ang anak ko.' Parang may pumisil naman sa puso niya. She never had a patient die under her care. Pero araw-araw ay may nakikita siyang binabawian ng buhay.

She stood up and went by his side. Dahan-dahan niyang hinawakan ang ulo nito at inihilig sa kanya. She tapped his shoulder as if she has been doing it all her life.

"You did your best, Lake. We are doctors. Hindi tayo Diyos. We try the hardest to make people live longer. Pero hindi natin hawak ang oras ng buhay nila."

She just let him sob. It must be hard for him to lose a patient. It is for every doctor. Especially a for a first time. Even if they know the chances, they still hope that the better outcome will still happen.

"Sorry. And thank you." Sabi nito nang kumalma na. "I don't want to burden you with this. It's just that, mabigat na kasi."

"It's fine. Ako ang makakaintindi sa iyo among others." Somehow, something in her wanted him to be happy. "I have an idea. Do you want to drive around?"

"In the club?"

Umiling siya. "In the city of pines and La Trinidad valley."

He just looked at her kaya hinila na niya ito palabas. Nagpalit siya ng sasakyan dahil hindi pwede ilabas sa club ang mga Tesla cars. They used her Fortuner.
