CHAPTER 26

Valentine's week in Versailles Leisure Club was one of the most looked forwarded events among others. Special dating locations are set up for couples to stay in. A handpicked couple can have the chance to get married inside the club which only happens during Valentine's week.

For Luna, it has always been the most quiet week in the clinic. Halos walang napupunta roon sa buong linggo. Every one was busy dating somebody in the club.

As for her, she usually stays in the shift alone. This year, she doesn't know if Valentine's will be different. Umaasa ba siya na pa-grand gesture si Lake? Magsisinungaling siya kung hindi sa kadahilanang nanliligaw nga ito sa kanya.

Speaking of ligaw, parang hindi na nga ganoon ang ginagawa nila. Wala namang nagliligawang nagse-sex. They are more like fuck buddies right now and it doesn't really bother her. Hindi naman siya makalumang babae na tradisyunal.

She was checking the available medicines when she heard the door open and close. Nang lingunin niya kung sino iyon ay nakita niya si Lake. He is also holding a paperbag printed with the Greenhouse restaurant's logo.

"It's not yet a weekend." Nakangiti niyang sabi rito. She set aside her charts and walked up to him.

"I heard the club holds special events during Valentine's."

Tumango siya. "They do kaya walang may sakit ngayon. Busy sila na nakikipag-date."

"And you are working?"

Kinuha niya ang dala nitong paperbag at tinignan ang laman niyon. "Valentine's is not a holiday, Lake."

"Sorry to disturb you then. Patapos na kasi iyung linggo and I haven't done anything special for you yet."

Nilibot niya ang tingin sa clinic na puno ng iba't ibang klase ng floral arrangements. "Really?" Akala ng ibang pumupunta sa clinic ay nalipat na ang flower shop ng club doon.

"Can I go to the ball with you tomorrow?"

When the Valentine's week ends, the club caps it off with a ball. The members can bring their wives or girlfriends or other relatives to join the event. Simpleng sayawan lang naman iyon at networking na rin.

She has never been in the ball dahil tinanggihan niya ang ibang members na nag-alok sa kanya.

Naisip niya na baka ito na ang tamang tiyempo para tapusin na ang meron sa kanila ni Lake. If this goes further baka malaman pa nito na mahal pa rin niya ito.

"Sure."

He smiled and hugged her. Hindi niya mapigilang amuyin ang bango nito. It was still the same scent that Lake used before. Naalala niya sa tuwing umuuwi ito noon ay inaamoy-amoy niya ito.

"Thanks. Have you had dinner?"

Umiling siya. "Magpapadeliver na lang ako sana sa cafe ni Tabi."

She watched him prepare the food on the table. Nakikita niya ang kasiyahan sa mukha nito. Something in her tells her to just continue what they have. Masaya naman sila. But she can't. Laging bumabalik ang mga insecurities niya. May mga pagkakataong inaantay niya itong magkamali para lang mapatunayan na hindi pa ito nagbago. She was far from being fit to be in a relationship with Lake.

Both of them ate while Lake tells stories about his patients. His name is becoming known in the world of neurosurgery in the Philippines. Nagustuhan niya na sa halip na tahakin ang daan na maging sikat na personalidad, mas pinipili nitong maging doktor at tumulong sa mahihirap.

"So, are still planning on pursuing Cardiology?"

Umiling siya. "I don't think that's still my path." Uminom siya ng kape bago itinuloy ang sinasabi. "I'm still undecided but I'm thinking somewhere between pedia or family medicine."
