"Ethan." Seán barked. A face none of us expected nor would of liked to see at a time like this.

Too soon. Too sudden. Not healed enough. Please not now.

"Seán." I whispered to him. He looked back and forth between me and him. He cared about both of us too much to pick sides.

"If I can just borrow a minute of your time, I'll leave right after." Ethan proposed.

"Why don't you just leave to begin with, seems like a reasonable option to me." I huffed. Literally. The steam from my hot air created a small little cloud that soon dispersed.

"Y/N!" Seán said grabbing my attention. I shut my mouth immediately, removing eye contact from the both of them.

"Ethan. Now is not a good time." Seán said as he walked over to him. Whispers and secrets soon were created and kept from me. Distance separated me from knowing what they were plotting.

I figured that the less I know, the better. Guiding Chica away from the two as they talked, her and I practiced some ways for her to become a mini service dog.

A minute or two passed, the boys were still going back and forth. I turned back to Chica who had been staring in the direction of the forest to the right of our path. She tugged for me to allow her to investigate. Weary, I didn't let her.

I turned away once again to try and find a way to distract myself. A bird then settled in it's nest near us, I used that. A beautiful, vibrant cardinal perched itself proudly in its home.

Chica's sudden barking caught my attention. I sighed and glanced over to her once more. Just then, before I could understand and interpret what it was exactly, an object propelled itself towards my face, hitting me straight in the head. I practically blacked out from the impact.

"Now is not a good time." I said leaving Y/N's side to go talk to Ethan personally.

"If I were to wait any longer, I could potentially lose her more. Isn't it better to own up to mistakes as soon as utterly possible?" Ethan pleaded.

"Yes, but in this circumstance, Y/N is not in the right shape to make peace with you. She is so heartbroken by both you and someone she considered a close friend of hers." I told him. He sighed.

"What she needs now is something neither of you want to hear right now." I paused. "You two need a break from each other. Just some time to get life back on track, figure out priorities, and then get some closure. Whether that closure ends in the relationship continuing or ending, that's your choice then. Not now."

"Fine. I understand that. I just, I messed up big time." Ethan sighed to himself.

"Being honest with you, kid. You really did." I paused looking back Chica who began barking like a mad dog, then back to Ethan. "Y/N is getting anxious, we should be heading home-."

The sound of a heavy object and a collapse of a body echoed off the ground. Ethan and I immediately look behind to see Y/N struck by a chunk of rock that laid next to her.

Broken pieces of the rock scattered the ground, followed by blood on the corner where the impact occurred. Shear panic flooded my body, that and anger.

"Y/N!" Ethan and I cried out. I lunged down to her, immediately checking her pulse. All was well.

"Ethan!" I caught him before he got close. "Go see if there is anyone in the direction Chica is barking at."
