- A Few More Days Later -

Ethan's car showed up in front of our house. I was finally able to walk by myself fully without help from friends. Ethan decided that today was the day we were going to bring Spencer to his forever home.

I hurried out to the car and got into the passenger seat. I leaned over and kissed Ethan before buckling up. Mark stood in the doorway and waved as we drove off.

"How are you feeling?" Ethan asked me. He had been pretty distant the past few days just to let me rest and make up with Mark. Not only that but having the chance to unpack and catch up.

"Better than when we arrived back home, that's for sure." I replied.

"Did you-?"

"-Take my medication?" I cut him off with a small laugh. "Yes I did."

"I'm glad." He smiled.

"How have you been?" I asked.

"I've been good. Kinda anxious but excited to finally get to have someone else in the house when you're not there. I'm glad the lady was able to hold onto him while we were in Ohio."

"Yeah. Props to her for being understanding and flexible." I added. "I'm sure he will love you."

"I'll try to be the best dog dad there is."

"I'm sure you will be. Did you get all the supplies already?" I asked him.

"Yep! A blue doggie bed, treats and toys of course, the best food I can give him. I also have a collar and leash in the back seat to bring him home. He's all set."

"All set except having you!"

"You're too sweet, Y/N." He blushed.

We drove for a couple minutes until we reached a shopping center parking lot where the lady had said she'd meet us. Of course the stores were bustling with busy people.

"She said she had a gray Honda." Ethan told me as he looked around to park. "Ah! There she is!"

We pulled in to a parking spot near the lady's car. Both of us unbuckled our seatbelts and got out of the car. The lady looked out her window, saw us there, and got out as well.

"Hi! I'm Donna! You must be Ethan?" She reached her hand out to him.

"That's me! This is Y/N." He introduced me.

"Pleasure to meet you." I greeted her with a warm smile.

"Well aren't you two a lovely couple." She complimented us before turning to her car doors.

"But we're not-." I began.

"Thank you." Ethan cut me off, thanking the lady.

Donna had opened the back doors to her car. Inside was a furry black and beige dog. He laid on a blanket in the backseats of her car. His ears perked up with excitement. Ethan hurried and got the collar and leash out of his car.

"He's a cutie." I said leaning down next to Donna. Spencer stood to his feet and came my way to lick my nose.

"He was my favorite to raise." She said. "What name have you decided?"

"Spencer." Ethan answered. I moved away so that Ethan could get his collar around the dog. Meanwhile, Spencer just stood there aimlessly staring at the concrete.

"Alright, you should be set!" She said.

"Thank you!" Ethan said handing me the leash to clip onto Spencer's collar. "I apologize for the long wait. We had an accident happen on our trip that was meant to be a few days long." He said.

"Oh it's quite alright! He was the last to leave so I got more time to spend with him before I bring in new puppies." She smiled. "Well if there's anything you need, you have my number! Have a nice day!"

Donna shut her car doors and waved goodbye as she backed out of the lot. Ethan turned to me with his usual grin.

"What's that look for?" I asked.

"Can I treat you to some lunch?" He offered.

"You know what? That sounds great. I'd love that." I replied with a cheerful smile. Ethan's eyes glistened with excitement.

"Alright!" He exclaimed. "Is take out okay with you?"

"That's fine! Food is food."

"Awesome. Well let's get Spencer inside the car."

The backseat doors were still open. We picked Spencer up and set him inside. The two of us got into the car and began to drive away.

During the drive home after we had gotten out lunch, Spencer had made his way up to the passenger side with me. He stepped on my legs carefully and laid in my lap.

"Looks like he likes you!" Ethan mentioned.

"Good thing too!" I said. "I don't plan on going anywhere buddy!" I began to pet his soft fur coat while seeing Ethan's flustered grin out of the corner of my eye.

- At Ethan's House -

Ethan and I sat on the couch side by side while eating take out Chinese chicken and rice. Him and I started a new show to watch anytime I happened to be over. Spencer laid in his bed a little ways away from the couch.

"I really missed this." He began.

"Missed what?" I asked.

"Us just hanging out almost every day. It feels normal again. Just like it was before." Ethan wrapped his arm around my shoulder and brought me close.

"It feels nice, you're right. Other than some slight stomach pain, it's great to be home and back to our life again. And to think I almost lost this..." I sighed.

"It's okay, Y/N." He kissed my head. "You're safe now. With me, you'll always be. I never want to even risk losing you like I did then."

"You won't lose me." I told him.

"That's good.. because... I.." he stuttered. He let go of me and leaned forward.

"Are you okay, Ethan?" I asked resting my hand on his back.

"Y/N? Remember that moment we had outside your parents house before the funeral? You asked me why I introduced myself as your boyfriend." He turned inwards to me and grabbed my hands.

- Flashback -

"Ethan."

"Hmm?"

"Inside, you said that you were my boyfriend. What was that all about?" I asked.

Ethan's eyes met with mine. Only his were very heavy with love and lust. His grip on my hand tightened as he brought his face close to mine. I only became more lost inside the way his eyes captivated me. I was swallowed in his embrace as his lips locked with mine.

"Because I never want you to have to see your family again. You are past their torment and are growing from the pain they put you through. I want them to know I am the one who will live the rest of my life with you because if they see you again and I'm not there, then they'll have another thing to get on you for. And I don't want to fucking let them get to you that way. I won't let them." He lamented.

"E-Ethan.." I stammered.

"Y/N, I'm not making the same mistake again. Not after causing you as much pain as I did. With this situation with your bother on top of it all, I feel ever-so-more guilty. I'm doing this to better myself and you. I'm doing this to... to have our bond be stronger."

"Stronger how?" I asked. "I'm unsure what you exactly mean."

Ethan remained quiet for a second whilst loosening the grip on my hand. He sighed before looking me back in my eyes.

"Y/N...-"

- End of Flashback -

"Yeah, I think I remember. Why?"

"I never got to finish what I wanted to tell you... and I think it's important."
