“Hey! You two! Can you stop messing around for a second?”
Your mom sighed as she watched you and your sister giggling and playfully pushing each other.
“Honey, let them be. They’re just having fun, right, girls?” your dad said, raising an eyebrow as he placed his coffee cup on the table. He glanced at your mom, who just shook her head, clearly exasperated.
“They barely get to see each other,” he added, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. “Weekends are the only time they get to do things like this.”
Your mom exhaled, her expression softening. “You’re right… We’re always so caught up with work. I wish we had more quality time together.” She picked up the coffee cup and started rinsing it.
“Mom, Dad?” your sister piped up. “Can we go out today? Maybe do some shopping? Y/N wanted to buy some gifts for a friend.”
You frowned slightly. What friend was she talking about?
“Right, Y/N?” Your sister shot you a pointed look, her eyes practically screaming at you to play along.
“Uh… yeah! Totally! For… a friend,” you said, nodding a little too enthusiastically.
Your parents exchanged glances and sighed. “Okay,” your mom said, arranging something on the counter.
You and your sister looked at her in shock. That was easier than expected.
“What? Don’t look at me like I’m some dictator stealing your freedom,” she said, rolling her eyes. “Now go before I change my mind.”
That was all the permission you needed. Within seconds, you were out of the room.
---
Half an hour later, you were both ready to leave.
“Seomi, hurry up! We’re getting late,” you called while tying your sneakers.
“Coming, coming! I don’t want to be late for our so-called ‘sudden’ shopping trip,” she said, grabbing your arm and dragging you out of the house.
---
The day passed in a blur of laughter, shopping bags, and random conversations. You both wandered through the streets, checking out shops, teasing each other, and people-watching. After a couple of hours, you finally sat down at an ice cream shop, enjoying the break.
That’s when your sister nudged you. “Y/N, look over there.”
You turned to see a woman sitting nearby. She carried herself with elegance, her movements precise and refined.
“She looks like she walked straight out of a historical drama,” Seomi whispered.
You nodded. “Definitely has that ‘old money’ vibe.”
You both watched for a moment before shrugging it off and finishing your ice cream. But just as you were about to head home, Seomi suddenly grabbed your arm and pulled you behind a bush near the sidewalk.
“What the—”
“Shush!”
“What?” you whispered back, annoyed.
She pointed. “Look over there.”
You peeked out and saw the same woman from earlier, now surrounded by a group of teenage boys in school uniforms. Something felt off.
Then it happened—one of them pushed her. She stumbled and fell to the ground.
Laughter erupted from the group.
Seomi clenched her fists. “I’m going over there.”
You grabbed her arm. “Are you insane? There are five of them.”
“And? We’re just supposed to stand here?” she hissed.
You didn’t answer immediately, instead smirking as an idea formed in your head. Seomi saw the look and sighed. “Whatever you’re thinking, just do it quickly.”
---
“Aww, look at her. So helpless,” one of the boys sneered.
“Maybe she isn’t that helpless,” you said, stepping forward, hands in your hoodie pockets.
The group turned toward you.
“Oh? And who are you supposed to be?” one of them scoffed. “Here to play hero?”
You ignored him and crouched next to the woman. “Are you okay?”
A boy stepped in front of you. “Hey! Don’t ignore us.”
You slowly stood up, meeting his gaze with a blank expression. He seemed annoyed by your lack of fear.
“What do you think you’re doing?” he asked, shoving your shoulder.
You barely moved. “What are you trying to do with her?” you asked instead, tilting your head.
The supposed leader smirked. “Oh, you know… just having some fun.”
Your jaw tightened.
“That so?” another voice cut in.
A group of police officers emerged from the street. “Hands up! You’re under arrest for harassment and assault.”
The boys froze for a split second before bolting.
The leader shoved you out of the way as he ran. You stumbled backward, hitting the pavement hard. Pain shot up your arm as you hissed in frustration.
“Y/N!”
Seomi was by your side in an instant, checking your injury. “You’re bleeding. I swear, those—”
She started cursing them out while you just sat up, wincing. Then you noticed the woman standing a few feet away, watching you. When your eyes met, she gave you a grateful smile and bowed slightly in respect.
You returned the smile.
“Y/N,” Seomi nudged you. “The police want to talk to you.”
Only now did you fully take in the chaos around you—police cars, an ambulance, even some media reporters.
You turned to Seomi. “Did you seriously bring the whole city here?”
She shrugged. “I just sent them the video of what was happening. Didn’t expect them to go all out.”
One of the officers approached with a nod. “That was brave of you. We appreciate what you did. Thanks to you, we’ll be able to catch them soon.”
You weren’t sure how to respond, so you just nodded.
As the adrenaline started wearing off, you let out a deep breath. What a day.
