Part Two / Chapter Forty-Five

There was no other word to describe how Venus felt other than sick. She looked at the couple in front of her and resisted the urge to hex them both into oblivion, why was she so angry? Harry was her friend. She should be happy for him. Maria Glossop had never uttered a word to him. Venus could see the greed seeping from her intoxicating smile. Instead of letting all of her rage out, unexpected words left her lips. "That's amazing!" she smiled so hard that her cheeks began to ache. "I'm really happy for you two."

       "Venus wait—"

But the girl had already fled from the compartment and down the corridor, it seemed deserted until someone came into view. If it weren't for what she was wearing, Venus would have passed Tonks off as any other student.

"Dee!" Venus shouted from where she stood. "Hi."

Tonks gave her a weak smile.

"You left without saying goodbye this morning," said Venus.

"Well, I knew you were going to be here so I figured—"

"Are you okay, Dee?" Venus blurted. "Don't lie to me either."

"You wouldn't understand," Tonks said dismissively.

"I wouldn't understand? I wouldn't understand?" Venus repeated and laughed exaggeratedly at Tonks.

"You're just a kid," she said. "If I'd just killed Bellatrix, Sirius wouldn't have died," Tonks said through gritted teeth and walking into another corridor. Venus followed her.

"And I grabbed his hand when he floated into the veil. I had his hand right here!" Venus held up her left hand. "and I let him go, so bullshit, I understand more than you think. I'm sick of you, Aunt Andromeda and Uncle Ted treating me like I'm four."

       Tonks didn't say anything.

"Besides, I didn't know Sirius meant that much to you," Venus accused. Tonks nervous expression matched Andromeda's from that morning, only convincing Venus more that they were hiding something from her.

"Are you on your Angel time-of-the-month?" Tonks retorted.

Venus stared right through Tonks resisting the urge to teleport her to Antarctica and leave her there.

"I— you— Eurgh!" Venus shoved past Tonks, and immediately tripped over what seemed like nothing. "Why does everything bad happen to me?" she let out angrily on the verge of tears. The train lurched forward, vibrating as the engine roared to life. "Bloody hell, I have to get to the castle."
