Chapter 44

Winwin's POV

I can't believe I actually fell for it again. Every time we watch a horror movie, I'm told that it's just a Halloween movie, and every single time, I get tricked and have to sit through the whole thing.

Or I can leave halfway, but I'm not doing that today because everyone else is sitting here and pushing through it. And also, Chunmei is right next to me and I don't want to come off as a coward.

Okay, I will admit that I'm the worst at watching these out of all of us, very unlike Yangyang, who somehow doesn't even flinch and actually seems to enjoy watching them- Like how?

Today, though, it looks like there's someone who's even more scared of these than I am.

About an hour into the movie, as some kind of strange creature suddenly pops up on the screen, I feel someone jolt and then grab onto my arm with quite a grip.

I look over and see Chunmei, holding onto me for dear life and staring at the screen as if she's so scared that she can't look away. I let out a laugh and watch as her face turns pink, but she still doesn't let go.

Kinda cute, if you ask me. Wait, what?

I look away from the screen for one second to make sure that Chunmei isn't about to pass out from fear or something, and immediately jump as Ten shrieks at the top of his lungs, making me jump. I almost grab on to Chunmei, but manage to compose myself.

Either I just luckily managed to miss the most terrifying jump scare of all time, or Ten is being overly dramatic again.

"Fishy fish fishy! Oh my god, Mr. Fish!" Ten gasps, basically out of breath. Just then, I notice Chunmei, hiding behind my back and the couch while actually shaking out of fear.

"Ten, did you just-" Xiaojun wheezes, slapping the closest person to him, which happens to be a very unlucky Hendery. Yeah, he's been hanging out with the other '99 liners way too much... especially Mark.

"Oh my god!" I exclaim, jumping and wrapping my arms around Chunmei as a terrifying - is that even a person? - appears on the screen along with a growl. Why did this movie have to be the one that Xiaojun pressed on?

I then notice that I'm holding onto Chunmei, who also let out a scream. Now we're both holding onto each other in absolute terror.

"Oh my goodness! I have to get a picture-" Kun says, grabbing his phone.

"Kun!" Ten slaps the phone out of his hands.

"Wait, no, our Winwin is finally growing up! He's so close to a girl-"

"Privacy, old man!" Ten cuts him off. I realize that Kun wasn't trying to take a picture of something on the screen; He wanted a shot of me and Chunmei. My face turns pink in embarrassment. Luckily, though, Chunmei doesn't seem to mind the strange actions of Kun.

I don't let go of her, though, because I need something - or someone - to hold on to.

I'll admit it, the rest of the movie is basically me not really paying attention to the movie and instead silently enjoying the feeling of being so close to Chunmei. I don't know why, but I really like it.

And also, the feeling that I can protect someone, because I'm usually the one being protected. Well, technically, we're protecting each other.

It's all very, very new, but very, very nice.
