Skylar's POV

I'd been reading for about half an hour when there was a knock at my door.

"Come in." I groaned, shutting my book and placing it back on my bedside table.

The door slowly opened to reveal my mom and dad, both with sympathetic expressions painted across their faces.

"Hey Sky, can we come in?" Mom said, her hand remaining on the door handle.

"Sure." I sniffled, sitting up and pulling my blanket closer to my chest.

They both walked in, taking a seat beside me on either side of my bed.

My dad wrapped his arm around me and pulled me close to to his chest as my mom rubbed my shoulder in comfort.

"We brought you something to cheer you up." Dad smiled down at me.

He took his other hand out from behind his back to reveal a tub of mint chocolate ice cream and a spoon, making a small smile appear on my face as I took it from him.

"My favourite. Thanks guys." I chuckled softly.

"Do you need anything, honey? Maybe a drink? We were about to go and watch a movie if you want to join us, you can choose?" She said.

"Yeah, I've taken the rest of the day off work so we can do whatever you want." Dad smiled.

"Thanks, but I'm okay...I think I just want to stay here and read for a while. I might join you later." I said.

"Okay, well if you need anything then you know where we are." Dad said, kissing the top of my head before he let me go and stood up from my bed.

"Yeah and Jocelyn's making yours and Carter's favourite for dinner." Mom smiled as she hugged me and joined my dad, standing beside my bed. "We'll come and check up again on you later okay?"

"Thanks mom." I smiled as they both began to leave.

At least they helped me feel a little better, although the pain wasn't going away anytime soon.

A couple of hours later, I'd finished my book and cried my heart out about that too. Maybe it wasn't the best idea to pick a sad book when I was already sad.

After that, Hailey and Leanne stopped by to check in on me.

They shouted at me for rejecting their calls and told me about the events of the school day, including Leanne going all crazy on Jake. They hugged me and cried with me. Even though it shouldn't have, that did make me feel much better.

I don't know what I'd do without them. Without them, I'd probably be lying alone in a muddy ditch somewhere.

The girls said that they weren't going to leave until I felt better but I persuaded them that I was fine. I know that they weren't convinced but they could see that I just wanted some alone time.

Of course they only left after we binge watched all of my favourite shows and they dragged me to the snack room. That probably wasn't the best idea on their part...

Heartbreak and snacks are not a particularly healthy pairing.

Once they'd gone, I still felt as broken as I had before. Like my heart had been ripped out of my chest.

I couldn't help but picture Jake and that girl together every two seconds, and each time I did, the betrayal just kicked in twice as hard.

Later on in the day, I still refused to leave my bed, most likely looking like an utter slob, but I didn't care.

Then I heard a soft knock on the door, assuming it was my parents again.
