Skylar's POV

My parents were stuck at the base dealing with Peter for a long time. I didn't even want to know what they'd done to him.

Now, we just had to try to carry on with life as best we could.

Life had been so heavy recently, everything was suddenly hitting me like a brick.

My brother was in the hospital, but I felt just as damaged.

After all that had happened, our lives were never going to be the same. The last couple of months had been so hectic and traumatic, it'd be interesting to see what else life had in store for us.

Being a mafia leader's daughter was never going to be an easy feat.

I stayed in the hospital with Carter for hours. He was staying overnight, but I wanted to wait until my parents came back before I went home.

Daisy agreed to stay with us too, leaving just the three of us in the hospital room.

"So, are you excited for graduation?" Daisy asked, holding Carter's hand as he lay on the hospital bed, sitting up with a mountain of pillows behind him.

"Oh my god, I totally forgot about graduation!" he said.

"Well it's next week." she laughed. "Are you coming, Sky?"

"Yeah, of course!" I replied. "I wouldn't miss it for the world."

"I just can't believe we're actually graduating high school and we'll be going on to college in September. It seems like just yesterday that we were starting middle school." Daisy reminisced.

"I know." Carter sighed. "I don't even know if I'm going to go to college..."

"What? Really? But you'd love it." she replied.

"I know, but it all depends on...family business." he said reluctantly. "And besides, Jamie never went to college and he's fine."

"Yeah but the family business can wait a few years for you to finish college, Carter." I said.

"I don't know if Dad would be happy with that...or if I even want to go to college. What's the point in studying something when I don't even know what I want to do?"

"Well, I guess you'll just have to think about it before accepting or rejecting any places yet." Daisy said, rubbing her thumb gently over the back of his hand.

"Do you know where you're going yet?" Carter asked.

"Yeah, actually...I just accepted a place at Yale." she said humbly.

"Yale? Oh my god Dais, that's amazing!" my brother said, pulling her in for a hug.

"It's kind of far away though." she sighed.

"Not really, what is it? 3 hours away from here? We can make that work...if you want to, that is."

"You'd still want to be with me, even if we both go off to different places?" she asked, slightly shocked.

"Of course I would." Carter said as if it was obvious.

"Long distance is hard, Carter. We wouldn't see each other that often...would you be okay with that?" she asked.

"Daisy, I want to be with you. Only you. In fact, I've been meaning to ask you if you'd be my girlfriend. The hospital isn't exactly where I envisioned this but-"

"Of course I would." she said, leaning down to hug him once more, her face burying in the crook of his neck.

"We're going to make long distance work, okay?" he said as she nodded and they shared a quick kiss.
