TW: Toxic relationship mentions + mentions of abuse

PSA to anyone who is currently in a relationship that is abusive, toxic, or you do not gain any form of happiness from: I will not act like I understand what you are going through because I do not- I have never been in a relationship that was toxic or abusive. However, my older sister was and when I tell you I asked why she had bruises all over her arms from him grabbing her she said everything was okay. I know you might love them but you do not deserve to be treated like that- no one deserves to be treated like that. I know they tell you they love you or maybe they tell you they'll hurt themselves, their friends, you, your family, etc if you leave them. My sister always told me she was okay and that her boyfriend would change but he never did. Thankfully, she was able to get out of that relationship and get a restraining order. So this is a message to anyone who is in that time of circumstance- please leave and get the help you need.

Damien walked into the cafe, more than happy to pick his girl up. He walked into the back, ignoring the glances he got from customers as he did so. Charlie who was working the counter smiled when he saw the man.

"Lily has been gushing about you all day, the only thing that was cheering her up was when I asked about you," Charlie teased.

Damien nodded, pushing open the door to the kitchen. There Lily stood, her sunshine yellow apron covered in flour, the sleeves of his crew neck she wore pushed up to her elbows. She was his little angel, so consumed in pouring the muffin batter into the tins to realize he had walked in.

He walked up behind her and eased the bowl down. He knew she would recognize his tatted arm. She turned around, standing on her tip toes to wrap her arms around his neck.

"Hey pretty baby," Damien chuckled.

"H-Hi!" Lily gushed. He could tell she was a bundle of nerves and he regretted mentioning the fact he had something to tell her. It wasn't the true question he wanted to ask her but her opinion was important to him nonetheless.

"Let's get you cleaned up hm?" Damien said, lightly guiding her to the sink, his hand on the small of her back. She nodded, taking off her apron and handing it to Damien. As she washed her hands, he went to the back room to hang up her apron like he did everyday.

"Damien! Wait!" Alyssa called. He turned to face his sister, sighing.

"I wanted to apologize I know that you aren't going to forgive me yet and I know you probably think the only reason I invited you for dinner was so I could try to make things up which is true but I also just feel really bad!" She blurted.

"It's fine, you didn't mean it. But don't think for a second I don't know that the minute Lily got here you grilled her with questions," Damien said calmly.

"I-"

"It's fine, I know why you do it. I want her to be safe and happy too... but I understand where your coming from," Damien cut her off. She didn't deserve how she was treated in her first relationship. No one deserves that. Damien remembered when he first saw the hand print around her throat, the one she tried to cover with a scarf. He could never unsee the dark purpley red bruise that covered her neck- the imprints of that monsters hands wrapped around his sisters throat because she had forgotten to put the towels in the dryer.

"Okay... well after you stop at home come for dinner at like 6:30... I think I'm just going to pick up Chinese... or maybe pizza?"

"Okay, I don't care," Damien responded and as he turned to leave, in walked his girl. He smiled at the sight of her.
