Time flew by, and then suddenly it was the day before the spring tournament preliminaries started. Everyone at Aoba Johsai was on edge. This would be the last chance for the seniors, so they all wanted to go far.
Yusei knew that feeling well.
At that moment, Oikawa and Yusei were in the gym after practice, serving balls at each other from the other side of the net. They were both sweating and panting since they had been at it for over an hour and everyone else had already gone home.
A few more serves and Yusei was about to call it quits. "Hey, Tooru-kun-"
"Huh?" He blinked, seemingly having come out of a trace-like state.
"I'm heading out, you should too," The ace told her setter.
"Let's clean up first though," Oikawa suggested with a grin, wiping the sweat from his forehead. So the two went around and shagged before mopping one last time and locking up the gym after grabbing all their stuff. "You seem different tonight," The setter commented, making the female shrug.
"It's the night before our first game, of course I'm a bit more focused," She responded.
"Is that so?" Oikawa hummed, glancing up at the stars as they walked. "Ya know, this would almost seem like a da-"
"Shut up Tooru-kun."
"You don't have to shut me down like that!" He whined before the two shared a smirk and Yusei bumped into him playfully.
"See ya tomorrow, captain~" Yusei sang as she turned off on her street, and Oikawa waved as he saw her off. As he watched her go, he sighed and tucked his hands into his pants before also continuing on his way.
When she got home, Yusei stood in her room as her phone tinged.
Son You better get to nationals, you hear me dad?!
She chuckled as she read the message, rolling her eyes and putting the phone down without responding. Suddenly there was a knock on her door. "Hey Yusei! It's me," Her brother waited for her to respond.
"What do you want?" She opened the door, and he just smiled.
"I wanted to wish you luck for tomorrow! And your friends are here for a run," Tenma informed her, so she nodded and brishee past him.
"Thanks, Tenma," She muttered, which he barely caught. Smiling in response, he headed back to the living room where he and his parents had been hanging out. "Sorry for the wait," Yusei said as she opened the door, revealing Kyoutani and Iwaizumi. "Let's go."

The night passed and the sun rose on the new day, the day of Aoba Johsai's first game.
Yusei wasn't going to be a part of the line up until she was needed so that no one could get intel on her, so she just sorta sat on the bench and took a nap for the first few games. Irihata and Mizoguchi didn't mind as long as Yusei stayed sharp and ready to go in.
It wasn't until the Date Tech game that Yusei was called upon. "Alright, if things get rough, Udai-kun will be going in for Hanamaki-kun," Irihata informed them before letting the team have a moment to themselves.
"Alright guys, this might be the first time Yusei-chan steps foot onto the court with us in an official game, so let's make sure that doesn't happen!" Oikawa said, and the others cheered as the person in question snickered.
"Don't fuck up too badly," Yusei called as the starting players walked onto the court. Iwaizumi and Makki flipped her off, which only made her chortle a bit as she plopped down on the bench.
First set went well, with the Aoba Johsai players winning at 25-19. Yusei didn't have any complaints, it meant she could sleep longer. "Alright, let's keep up this energy," Oikawa encouraged, "Looks like Yusei-chan won't even need to get off his ass."
"Yeah, let's keep Yusei on his ass!"
"Yeah!"
"Why the hell did the cheer become about my ass?"
Soon enough, the second set started and Yusei went back to sleep. She wasn't awoken until it was time to line up, so she assumed everything went well. "Thank you for the game!" The two sides bowed before shaking hands.
Yusei yawned as she held her hands behind her head, walking with the others as they went for a food and water break since their next game was soon after that. That next game was the semi-finals, which was weird to think about since Yusei had yet to play, and she was getting bored of just sleeping the whole time.
"Udai-kun," Irihata called, "You're starting this game."
"Roger that," The female replied on the floor with a banana in her mouth.
"Awww, guess we gotta change our cheer."
"How about Get Yusei Back On His Ass?"
"Wow you're so desperate for me not to play, is that an inferiority complex I'm hearing?" Yusei mused, making their faces heat up.
"Shut up!"
"Right on the money as always," Makki smirked as they fist bumped. "Make sure to wipe the floor with them, Yusei."
"Oh, I plan to," She smirked in reply. "We're playing Karasuno high, right?"
"Yeah."
"I know some people from there, so this should be fun," The female player grinned as she finished eating her banana. "Now then," She stood up, as did everyone else. "Let's go kick some ass."
The Aoba Johsai team walked through the doors and headed to their court, grabbing balls and starting to warm up again even though most of them were still warm from their last game.
"Looks like Oikawa's being weird again," Kyoutani commented as he stood next to Yusei, both witnessing Oikawa and a person neither had seen before playing tug-of-war with a ball. Yusei blinked as Oikawa let go, laughing like a maniac.
"Just ignore that," Iwaizumi advised as he walked past them.
"I'll go grab a ball," Kyoutani told Yusei, who nodded and yawned again. The boy bumped into Yahaba on his way back, but ignored him as he continued to Yusei.
The two started warming up and eventually got to peppering until it was time for their four minutes on. "Oh my god, it really is Yusei!"
"I can't believe he's with Aoba Johsai!"
"Yeah, wasn't he playing with a Tokyo prefecture team?"
Karasuno gossiped amongst themselves as the Aoba Johsai players did hitting lines, unaware that Yusei could hear the majority of what they were saying.
"I wanna go say hi."
"Me too, but maybe after the game."
"Dude that's a terrible idea."
It really is, Yusei snickered before her gaze went dark, because one of us is going to be crushed, and it most certainly isn't going to be me.
(Finally getting to the Karasuno-Seijoh game! Sorry for the long hiatus, but it's over now so I'll be updating on Thursdays from here on out!)
