DEREK JOLTED AWAKE FROM HIS GUT WRENCHING NIGHTMARE. He immediately looked beside him to see a peacefully sleeping Haven in his arms. He let out a sigh of relief at her current position, especially when hearing the steady sound of her beating heart. She was alive and breathing, he thought to himself. He tried to rid his mind from the nightmare he endured moments before he woke up. It felt terrifyingly real. Way too real for him.

The same nightmare had been happening every night the last three nights. Where Haven would die in his arms, unknown to him how they were in that situation. It began with only him catching her body as they dropped to the ground and he would hold her until her heart took her last beat. He couldn't shake her dull lifeless eyes staring up at him from his mind. It seemed his mind was torturing him with his biggest fear of watching Haven die in front of him, unable to save her.

At first he assumed he was experiencing these nightmares after spending a night away from her. He thought because he had gotten so used to having her spend the night with him or him with her, it was just a one time thing. He thought he would be fine the next night he was with her. That wasn't the case. Even with her safe and sound in his hold, he still relived the same terrifying nightmare.

Although she was well and alive right now in his arms, he still felt terrified and shaky from it. All he could do right now to keep himself calm and from wolfing out was to inhale his calming scent, and focus on her calm beating heart. As much as he needed sleep seeing as he was only running on about twelve hours of sleep the last three days, he was afraid to. He knew the moment he'd shut his eyes he was fine Haven lifeless in his arms.

He could feel the lack of sleep was taking a harsh toll on him. He's been more agitated and aggressive, especially with his wolf that was restless. His main priority was Haven and her safety. At this point he didn't even care about the Kanima and the Argent situation. He needed to ensure her safety because he knew he couldn't ever handle losing Haven. The mere thought of losing her was enough to make him angry and heightened his protectiveness.

Of course he couldn't tell her though. He knew it would only end up making her worry and constantly make sure he was okay. He didn't need anyone taking care of him. It wasn't her job to take care of him. It was only his job to take care of her despite knowing Haven was capable of taking care of herself. He quite enjoyed taking care of it a lot of the time because he loved seeing the annoyed look on her face.

He mentally cursed to himself when he looked out the window to see it was still completely dark outside. He knew it must've been at least three in the morning. There was no way he would be going back to sleep because of his nightmare he relived every night. So all he decided to do was lay here with her in his embrace until sunrise when she would be waking up. Then he remembered it was the weekend and she had no school.
