At first, he thought that the little jade button was only two or three taels at most, but didn't expect that...

Su Qingbai's heart became complicated. He knew he shouldn't take the money. But at present, dealing with the housework's renovations, there would be little money left. For families without any income, they would not last long.

This money, he really needed it.

If worst came to worst... pay that man back later.

...

Taking off his long shirt, Su Lingchuan pulled out his rough shirt from nowhere and put it on. He gathered everyone again.

"Now that we have one hundred taels of silver at home, we can ensure that we have enough food and clothing for the next period of time, but we can't just sit back and do nothing." Su Lingchuan gave a pause and began to get down to business. "I want to open up a few pieces of land for cultivation for the family."

Borderland was the least valuable. Not to mention the harvest was little, at any time, might possibly being invaded and harassed by the neighboring army whose land was poorer. The other bad luck was, not a single grain was reaped.

Opened up land for cultivation.

When Su Qingbai heard it in the beginning, he felt nothing in particular. From childhood to adulthood, he hadn't done much work yet. The only thing he's tired of was staying up late in the casino and somebody's bed. In the beginning, he still didn't know much about work.

Until his Laozi stuffed a shovel and a hoe to him.

Su Lingchuan used to do this kind of work before. Su Family's two elder brothers used to practice martial arts which sufficient to keep their bodies fit and strong, and so they could tolerate it somewhat.

Su Qingbai and Su Huai couldn't do it at all, especially Su Qingbai. He lifted the hoe and swung it twice. The white tender palms of his hands were blistered. His hands ached badly. In half a time, he stopped and didn't do much work.

Su Lingchuan finished a small piece of land and looked back. He saw Su Qingbai was still dawdled in that small area and thought he was lazy.

Su Lingchuan wanted to change his son's bad habits very early, but he was busy with state affairs. Right now, Su Lingchuan took off his shoes and wanted to whip Su Qingbai.

Fortunately, although Su Qingbai's hands were blistered, his legs were still good. He was chased by his old man in the wasteland for half a day.

In the end, Su Qingbai pitifully showed his Laozi the bubbles on his hands. Su Lingchuan did not give him a good beating, only kicked him with a few kicks, and taught him with a few words.

Following his Laozii back home, Su Qingbai patted the dust off his ass. He was lucky his Dad just kicked him for a few and did not hit him hard. It didn't hurt.

Unexpectedly, when Su Lingchuan walked back with a couple of men carrying hoes, he saw a small tree with thick branches on the way. Father Su stopped suddenly. He lifted the hoe and cut it down. That night, he cut a ruler with it. It was much thicker than the one used when they still living in the capital.

Su Qingbai took a look. His Dad cut it casually. The thorns on it had not been polished.

That night, Su Qingbai was very well-behaved.

When Su Qingbai returned home in the evening, he realized that he was not the only one who had blisters. His Da-ge Su Qingyang and his nephew Su Huai also had blisters. He could not help but feel ashamed.

The next day, he did not cry for pain.

Every day, Su Qingbai's hands were blistered and a thick layer of callus came onto his palms.
