Grief is a complicated and personal thing that everyone experiences differently. That's why, if someone else is the one grieving, it can be hard to know what to say to them. During such a painful and sensitive time, no one wants to say the wrong thing and make matters worse, but this hesitation is also what can keep us from saying the right thing.

Love is complicated. The emotion covers feelings for family, friends, lovers, and even animals.

But of course today isn't about family, friends, animals, today is about lovers. Grief comes in its own time for everyone, in its own way. So the best we can do, the best anyone can do, is try for honesty. The really crappy thing, the very worst part of grief is that you can't control it, The best we can do is try to let ourselves feel it when it comes.

"It's not time yet," said Derek.

"There's no pain here." Meredith said, while Derek is hugging her from behind.

"You want to know a secret?" he asked. "I miss the pain." Derek said truthfully, planting two small kisses into her hair. "You have to go."

"I'm so tired," Meredith said, leaning into Dereks touch more.

"It's not your time yet," he said. "Our kids need you. You have to go."

"And cut!" Michael, the directer of the episode, said to Ellen and Patrick.

"You did good." Patrick whispered into her ear while removing his arms from around her. "Thank you." She smiled non-convincingly.

"Elle? What's wrong?"

"Nothing, go finish your last scene." She said motioning to where Debbie and Michael were both standing waving him over. "Ok, I'll be back." He smiled and headed off in the direction of Debbie and Michael.

"Ok." She mumbled under her breath kicking some sand around with her foot. This scene hurt more than Dereks death, having to say goodbye to the iconic couple once again.. it was hard. She could feel the tears welling up in her eyes. Quickly, when she heard Patrick's voice calling for her, she blinked the tears away and turned her head to face him giving him the best smile she could.

"Elle, what's wrong." He asked, lifting her chin with his finger making her look at him. "It's just so hard.." she admitted after a few seconds. "I know.." he breathed pulling her into his embrace.

"Elle-," The pair heard Debbies voice from behind them. "Oh I'm sorry." She said noticing the pair were in a moment.

"It's ok. Is everything alright?" Ellen asked.

"Yes. Perfect actually, you two are finished for the day." She said walking off. She sighed and wrapped her arms around his waist while her head rested on his shoulder.

"We should do something to tonight." Ellen said, caressing his arm muscle with the tip of her fingers.

"We should." He smirked.

"And what should we do?"

"I can think of something." He smiled bringing his lips down onto hers. "Mm. I like the way you think." She smiled pulling away and getting into the passengers side of their car.

"I do too."

———

"I'm bored." Ellen sighed half way into their hour drive. Patrick couldn't help but chuckle a little bit. "We'll be home in 30 minutes."

"But I'm bored." She whined, and pouted out her lip. Something he found adorable.

"Truth or dare?" He asked.

"Truth or dare." She nodded. "You go first."

"Ok.. hm, truth."

"Oou. What is your best pick up line?"

He smiled a little bit thinking of what to say. "Are you a lion because you can rawr, but seeing you lion under me is better."

She turned her head and couldn't help but laugh. He joined into the laughter and started coughing from how hard he was laughing. "That was the funniest pick up line I think I've every heard!" She said between laughs.

"Oh yeah. What's yours?"

"I don't have pick up lines. But I have sexual ones." She shrugged.

"Now I must hear these 'sexual' lines." He smiled like a child.

"Are you a poster? 'Cause I want to pin you up against my wall."

"I would like that." He turned his head to look at her before focusing back on the roads. "Of course you would." She giggled.

"Tell me more."

"Ok.." she sighed, thinking of something good. "I don't know what's gotten into me lately, but I wish it was you."

"That ones good. More."

"All these trains and you're the only one I want to rail."

"Oou." He said, she giggled.

"I can't think of anymore." She sighed.

"I got one."

"Lemme hear."

"I heard you want to practice riding horses, why don't you practice on me?"

"Creative. But doesn't make a lot of sense."

"Oh come on!"

"What!?"

"I thought it was amazing."

"It was.. not amazing. But creative." She smiled placing her hand on his thigh. He inhaled a long breath. "We need to get home. fast." He said pressing on the pedal harder.

"Are you a light switch? Cause you keep turning me on."

"If your left leg was Christmas, and your right leg was thanksgiving, could I visit between the holidays."

"Ok that one was good." She smiled.

"I know."

"Cocky."

"Yup." He smiled.

"Are you math? Because you keep getting harder."

"Only for you." He smiled, and kissed her lightly. "Now let's get inside." He said jumping out of the car and picking her up.

They had a long night ahead of them.
