A complete idiot.

Yeah, that pretty much sums up how I'm feeling right now.

How could I let this happen? After all that we've been through, you'd think I'd learn to be more careful.

"Fuck, Vixen." Jay cursed and leaned across the backseat, knocking on the partition to speak to the driver.

Harley turned to me, a frown on her face, "I don't understand how you let this happen, Vixen. You're usually more careful than all of us combined." Harley murmured.

I could hear the disappointment dripping from every word that left her mouth. My stomach twisted with guilt as I closed my eyes tightly to fight back tears.

"I-I'm sorry. I didn't think he was a threat. I was too busy focused on the dance and I-I wasn't—"

Jay cursed underneath his breath, "Please, Vixen. Just be quiet."

I couldn't blame Jay for being upset with me. Tyler has already been through enough and now, because of me, he's in danger. Again.

I ignored the nervous pit in my stomach and remained silent for the rest of the ride home.

My heart pounded against my rib cage as the driver pulled up to the gate. Harley told him the code and the gates slowly opened. He drove up the long, winding driveway and parked close to the front door.

We all loaded out of the car, rushing towards the front door.

"Stay behind me," I whispered to Jay and Harley, pulling the pistol out of my holster. "I'll go in first. You guys wait for my signal, then follow, okay?"

Harley shook her head, "No. We're not letting you go in there alone—"

"This is my fault. Just let me do this," I uttered. "I won't let anything happen to Tyler, okay?" I said to Jay.

He was hesitant, but he eventually agreed.

Sucking in a sharp breath, I raised my gun and twisted my hand around the doorknob. The door slowly creaked open and I stepped foot inside of the dark mansion.

My eyes searched around the foyer and, almost immediately, saw an eerie, unrecognizable figure sitting at the bottom of the staircase.

"Who the fuck are you? And why are you here?" I hissed at the shadowy figure.

The silence was deafening as I squinted my eyes into the dark foyer to get a better look, but I couldn't make out a face.

"I asked you a question!" I shouted. My voice bounced off the empty walls.

More silence.

I heard the sound of footsteps above me and looked towards the top of the staircase to see Tyler. He had a knife in his hand and a petrified look on his face, "Vixen!" Relief filled his voice and I felt my shoulders relax knowing that he was safe and unharmed.
