SOPHIE LOOKED AT THE CARD
Chase handed her with a frown. She had been walking to her locker when the boy stopped her with a business card that advertised his Student of the Semester campaign. Since attention was what Chase needed, she couldn't help but grow worried, as with more attention comes more potential people finding out about Spike.

"I don't think you should do this... What if someone finds out about your identity?" She asked, furrowing her brows.

Chase rolled his eyes before handing a passing student a card with an enthusiastic smile, only to drop it once they were out of sight. "First of all, I'm not a superhero and I don't have a secret identity. Second, I'm doing this competition. It's the perfect way to prove my intelligence and claim my superiority!"

Sophie blinked at the passion Chase was displaying before saying quietly, "that's nice..."

A ding went off in her pocket and she sighed, knowing what message awaited her. "I've got to go now, Stephanie needs us for her daily affirmations. Buh-bye Spike, I look forward to competing with you!"  She patted his arm with a friendly smile before walking off.

He nodded, not paying much attention before freezing once his brain had finally registered what was said.

"Competing?!"

Sophie had been waiting for this moment. The Student of the Semester results.

Though she wasn't sure if she would come out on top, what Sophie did know was that she tried her best and had fun. She talked to numerous students she'd never talked to before and had even befriended those who Stephanie once laughed at. Granted, she knew she'd never talk to them again after today but at least she didn't leave them with a bad impression.

And by doing this competition Sophie's bond with the cheer team had strengthened tremendously. When the girl had come to the cheerleaders with the announcement that she was running for Student of the Semester, most of them had been supportive of the news. Some of them even sat with her at her booth, handing out cupcakes to students in exchange for their votes.

The cheerleaders weren't the only ones supportive of her decision however, as once word got around that Sophie was in the running, the football team had taken it upon themselves to "encourage" others to vote for the blonde.

Sophie stood in the crowd, watching as Ms. Thistle struggled to open up the envelope containing the results.

"Oh, just give me the stupid thing!" Chase said as he rushed out of the crowd, snatching the letter from the teacher's hands. "I mean... let me help you, ma'am."

Chase pulled the letter from the envelope, jumping in excitement as he read the contents. "Yes! Yes, yes, yes! I... tied with Sophie and Adam?"

"Yes, I half-won!" Adam shouted out excitedly before picking up both Chase and Sophie with ease. "Put me down!" Chase exclaimed, too shocked to correct his brother's math.

"Hello, co-co president!"

"Oh, great..." Chase grumbled. It had only been an hour since the results were announced and the young Davenport couldn't be more embarrassed. Tying with two of the dumbest people at school was humiliating, and he couldn't wait for everything to be over and done with. He only had this tutoring session left and then he could finally go home and start working on his essay.

Sophie sat down at a nearby table and he figured he might as well make small talk while he waited for the student to show up. "So what are you doing here? I never pegged you for the library type..." He couldn't help but cringe at his wording. He was never good at talking to girls.

"I have to meet with a suitor," she said nonchalantly. "I don't know what that means but Mr. Cochran said it would help my grades."

Chase nodded awkwardly before freezing once her words finally registered in his head.

She was the student he was going to be tutoring.

Chase walked over to her table and took a seat, ignoring the bright smile she sent him. "It's tutor, for one," he sighed. This wasn't going to be easy. "And two, I'm the one tutoring you."

Sophie gasped excitedly. "This is fun, it's like president bonding! Now we just need Adam and it'll be all complete!"

He rolled his eyes as he began pulling his supplies out. "We're not sharing student of the semester. Principal Perry said it herself, we each have to write an essay, and whoever has the best one wins." A smile tugged on his lips once he remembered who he was going up against. "Which means I'm going to win."

"Har har very funny. We both know I'm going to win," Sophie said with a confident grin. "Look at me! I have no bad angle!"

Chase scoffed. "Being pretty has nothing to do with this. It all comes down to who has the better essay, and we all know who's gonna win that. I mean..." he looked at her, searching for something to prove his point and finally settling on the piece of paper she had in front of her. He picked it up and shoved it in her face. "Look! You can't even spell your name right!"

Sophie's smile faded as she realized she spelled her name with an f. She snatched the paper from his hands and covered it with her arm, cheeks reddening. "Oh, you think you're so smart. You may be the better writer, but I..."

Chase's face turned smug. "Maybe you and Adam can do a competition. Find out who's dumber."

The boy's face fell once he realized how harsh he sounded but it was too late because, with that final word, Sophie had stormed out of the library.

A/N: This is messy.

Sorry for taking so long with this chapter! I had a bunch of things planned out but I didn't know how to execute it and ended up scrapping a lot. I apologize if it seemed choppy or messy.
