I end up taking the shower that I desperately needed, putting on some much-missed perfume and deodorant after shaving the hell out of my legs.

I hadn't been able to shave in the Resident Evil world at all, and it was a nightmare to me, who had always been uncomfortable with how my hair got caught by different fabrics so easily.

But despite the joy I felt of being back in the comforts of my childhood home (and clean), I couldn't help but feel an absence in my heart. Something was missing, and I knew exactly what it was without even having to think.

Karl wasn't by my side.

For the past month there hadn't been a day where that greasy and grimy man wasn't around me doing something. Life was quiet without that gravelly voice over my shoulder.

I assumed that stupid cup trick didn't work, because even after three days, I was feeling like total shit, flashbacks of the game hitting me like a truck before being followed up by painful migraines.

"Sweetie, we're heading out again. Do you need anything?" Dads voice reached my ears from downstairs, and I shook my head in response before realizing they wouldn't see that.

"No! I'm good!"

The door shuts without further question and I slump, pulling up my sweaters sleeves to see the injuries that were wrapped in fresh bandages.

"Karl... how stupid of me to get attached so foolishly. All it did was make being separated like this worse."

After staring at my ceiling for longer than I'd like to admit, I got up, running my hands through my hair.

I decided that my stuffy house wasn't any good for this headache and headed outside, walking among the few crowds there were on a Tuesday with a sense of helplessness.

There wasn't anyone I could talk to. My friends were clueless, and my family would send me to an institution. It didn't really matter though, the loneliness I felt couldn't be solved by them anyway.

That's when I saw it. Well, rather I saw him. I tried to avoid letting a gasp or something similar escape, as to not draw attention to myself.

"Karl?"

The hat-wearing man poked his head up from a food stand to see me, rushing over with confusion. "y/n, where the fuck am I?!"

He seemed angry. Actually no; he was angry. I shrunk back, taking his wrist with hesitation since I didn't know how he'd react. "Uhm, uh— follow me."

Shockingly enough, he listened without complaint, following behind me as people gave weird glances and confused looks to the weirdly dressed man being dragged by some stranger.

There were a few people that shouted out 'good cosplay!' But I made sure to speed past those spaces, not wanting Karl to get confused about everything before getting a chance to explain. He needed to be in my house so I could break the news easily.

Meanwhile, Karl was jogging behind me, looking at everything that passed with what I could only assume was utter shock and admiration.

As far as I was aware, he hadn't left the village since Miranda got ahold of him, so things like modern cities and towns were foreign to him at this point.

A smile dressed my face despite the worry I had for how Karl was going to react when I told him he was in a completely different dimension.

I mean, at least he was here. With me. Karl was back by my side again, and this time I can keep him with me in more livable surroundings.

I get inside the house and immediately shut the door, letting out a small breath of relief since no one I knew from school saw me. I couldn't imagine that conversation, considering they knew about the Resident Evil games existence.

"Are you going to explain to me what the fuck happened to us?!" Karl exclaimed once we'd stopped our movements, motioning around him at the house.

I smile a little, scratching my healing arms as I try to remain calm with the fuming man. I never could figure out how to handle him when he was in a foul mood.

"This is gonna be a bit of a long story."
