Chapter Ten

I came back to Levi's office with more tea. I set everything as usual: placing the cup in front of him and pouring the tea. I hated the smell of black tea; smelt like grass and weeds. I poured his tea into the cup and placed the teapot on the other side of him

"So-" I finally spoke "-you did know my name"

I sat myself up on the desk, my arms crossed as I smiled at him

"Considering how you were bending that tray-" Levi said after taking a sip of his tea "I figured I better remember"

I laughed through my nose, looking out the window that was in front of me, behind him.

I could only see the buildings surrounding the headquarters and the much bigger Garrison headquarters right in the middle of Trost. Made me think about Tobias. I wondered how he was. I hadn't seen him since I became the Scout's handmaiden.

"You don't like being told what to do" Levi looked up at me from the side of his eye, breaking my thoughts "so why are you a maid?"

"I was homeless for 8 years" I shrugged "and then I decided to see if the scouts needed an extra hand"

"That's a lie" he huffed "Erwin told me you broke in"

His eyes narrowed, seeming upset

"What else did the commander say?" I asked

"I don't remember" he turned away, his voice not pleased, almost with a tinge of envy

He didn't seem happy, almost jealous. It got me thinking. Maybe that was why he gave me that look back in Karanes before they left for their expedition.

There was one way to find out:

"I bet he said I was pretty" I smiled "or that I'd make a great wife"

Levi shot a look at me

Bingo. A big smile crept along my face as I figured it out.

"You got a sweet spot for him!" I leaned in, giggling "I knew it"

Levi just stared at me

"Don't worry" I rose back up, looking back out the window and onto Trost "I don't like Erwin in that way. Besides-"

I sighed, my voice softening

"I have eyes for someone else"

"I heard" Levi muttered, me darting a look at him this time

"How does word get around here so quick?" I sighed, placing my elbows on my knees, resting my chin in my hands

"Miche, that's how" Levi answered "He likes you a lot. He won't shut up about you"

I blushed. Those words: "He likes you a lot". It made my heart flutter and my stomach feel like it was full of butterflies

"Really?" I smiled "What does he say?"

Levi huffed

"Hey! I want to know what he thinks!"

"Fine" Levi looked up at me "He loves you a lot and he'd sacrifice a lot for you"

I sighed as my cheeks turned pink with happiness

"He also says you smell like roses" Levi continued.

He looked away from me and cleared his throat in an almost embarrassed way. I could see from the side of his face he had chubby cheeks. Considering his small stature and thin build, I was surprised to see that. It was cute.
