1986

The club was clouded with cigarette smoke, and the band played a slow beat, making couples dance sweetly across the free dance space, while you listened to your bestfriend, Duckie, go on. Go on about how Andie was too good for Blane, and that the redhead should've been his.

It was quite heartbreaking to say the least, especially since you watched Duckie do everything in his power to impress Andie, or listened to him go on about how perfect she was, instead of studying with you. If you were being honest, you got jealous when Duckie talked about the girl, who obviously wasn't you.

Yes, it was true, you did take an extra liking to the unique "Duck Man". Actually, we're falling head over heels for him, and it killed you, when you were reminded about how strong his feelings were for someone else.

"You know, I drive my bike past her house everyday, I must do it like ten times a day. I-I greet her everyday at school too, I even make her mixtapes. What do I get in return? The fact that she doesn't feel the same, and that I've been doing this all for nothing" Duckie rambled, while you just nodded, and sympathetically rubbed his back.

"That's so sweet, but you can't make somebody love you, no matter what you do, darling" Iona added, smoking her cigarette from across the table, your heart dropping when she gave that piece of advice, because it applied to your situation too. Afterall, you couldn't make Duckie love you, and he couldn't make Andie love him; it was the struggles of being a teenager.

"I hate that your right" Duckie groaned, and you could've sworn you were on mute, because you couldn't say anything. And the things you wanted to say, involved your feelings for Duckie.

"Your awfully quiet tonight, Y/n, something wrong?" Iona asked, taking notice of your distant behaviour, to which you responded with a shake of your head.

"Oh no, what seems to be the problem?" She wondered once more, making Duckie glance over at you with a concerned look, a look you never saw Duckie where that often.

"Yeah, what's wrong? I mean you had to hear all about my problems, let'shear about yours" Duckie said, and you wanted to stay quiet, and brush it off as 'nothing', but you just couldn't keep it in any longer.

"Well, there's this boy- a-and he's so unique, and funny. He can make my bad days better, just with one of his quirky jokes, everything about him is perfect to me. But he likes another girl, and he doesn't ride his bike past my house, nor does he make me mixtapes, he doesn't even know I like him more than a friend" you explained, your emotions bubbling within, and tears beginning to prick your eyes, as you told this to Iona, and your oblivious crush.

"I'm sorry to hear that, hun. Does he have a name atleast?" Iona put out her cigarette in the ashtray, while Duckie looked at you in disbelief, he had a feeling that he was that boy, but he couldn't be so sure yet.

"Yeah, his name is Duckie Dale" you spoke in a rushed tone, before leaving the table, and hurrying out of the club, not being able to bear the humiliation of Duckie not returning the feelings, and you were instantly regretting the things you said.

The night air sent a shiver down your spine, and you hugged yourself for a bit of warmth, your tears slowly rolling down your delicate face. That's when the sound of shoes clicking against the wet concrete of the parking lot, made you turn around to see Duckie himself.

He took off his sunglasses, now that it was dark out, and stuffed them into his jacket's pocket, a smile tugging on the corner of his lips. Ever since he registered what you confessed, he couldn't help but feel this strange attraction towards you. An attraction that was always there but never persued, since he was always too busy swooning over Andie, to even recognize it. Now the attraction was really set in place, and he knew you were more than Andie's replacement.

"What do want, Duckie? Coming to tell me that you don't feel the same?" You asked rudely, even more embarrassed, especially with Duckie stepping closer to you, until his face was only a few inches away from yours.

"Not at all, quite the opposite, actually" Duckie grinned, cupping your face, and wiping the stray tears with the pads of his thumbs, while watching you give him a confused expression.

"What do you mean?" Without responding to your question, Duckie placed his lips on yours, making your eyes widen in shock at the bold, and surprising gesture Duckie did. You placed your hands on his shoulder, finally relaxing into the kiss after a moment or two, and kissing him back with the same amount of passion. Passion that you had been saving for him, and him only.

Duckie could feel his heart skip beats, at the feeling of your electrifying lips against his, and it made him realize how great of a kisser you were. He was already starting to forget about Andie, and the only girl in his head was you.

"There you kids wen-" Iona was cut off by the sight of you two, kissing in the parking lot, which made her give a proud grin, remembering when she was your age, before going back into the club.

Duckie pulled away for air first, and noticed that you were blushing, and he gave you a goofy grin, making you finally giggle.

"Does that answer your question, darling?" Duckie asked playfully, and you couldn't help but nod frantically

"Yes, does that mean we're a thing now?" Your question sounded a bit awkward, which made you mentally face palm.

"Well, I don't go around just kissing any girl, unless they are one of a kind, honey" Duckie said sarcastically, and you laughed at his smartass comment, before kissing him once more.
