Clara lifted the Sword of Damocles, felt its weight burn into her skin like a racing star. She'd held hundreds of swords before, with blades more whimsical and less practical, and this should have been no different.

The handle molded into her grip far too well, and the blade radiated an odd, golden hue. She wondered why such an antique would be hung in a relic's hall for no prior history than the fables written about it. Perhaps it was a trick of the light or the clouded judgment after spending days at House Rumiere with Nicol, but it was as if—

As if the sword chose her.
