Number One Chef In The Intergalactic Era

Chapter 6

After Blake promised Bella that he will buy fruits for her, he really starts to search fruits. But there's no fruits in the capital asteroid as well as the surrounding asteroids. Yes, the place they lives is not an actual planet but rather an asteroid. The whole country is a gathering of different types and shaped asteroid. It's like Earth, where there's some countries that are divided into different islands. Their country is also same. Rather than islands, it's a collection of asteroids. The capital they lives in is the largest asteroid among them. But there's not a single plant in the whole capital let alone fruits tree. Actually, there are plants on the asteroid but they are only for decoration. Not for producing oxygen or fruits. All the asteroid are covered by a barrier that called Biodome. It's astonishing that there's no tree but people can still breath. That's because there's countless air making machine in every asteroid. Their job is to make different gas of the atmosphere that humans need to survive. So, even though there's no tree, people can still breathe easily without any difficulty. They don't have to worry about what would happen if the air making machines stops working because they are maintained by highly intelligent AIs. The AIs job is to maintain the balance of the air and fix the barrier if there's a problem in it.

There's no sun for the asteroids but there's still ample amount of sunlight for the people living here. It's because the asteroids are facing a nebula. The color of the nebula is orange but it's light are slightly yellowish. Just like sunlight of the Earth. That's why Bella still doesn't know that they are actually living in asteroids rather than an actual planet. But the question is, how does the humans count the days?

Coincidently, the nebula stops shining after every twelve hours. The chemical inside the nebula burns for twelve hours and gives enough light for the people living inside the asteroids. It's considered daytime for them. After twelve hours, it's chemical reaction stops and it's also  stops giving light. It's considered nighttime for the people. And thus how it's makes twenty four hours for them. But the people doesn't counts months. They only counts days, weeks and years. And their years doesn't consists 365 days but rather it consists 589 days. The amount of days the nebula takes to move around it's orbit. So the years are long for them.

Bella is ignorant about all of this. She doesn't know that it's not an planet where she lives, neither that the light she sees at daytime isn't from a sun like star or that the asteroids are covered by Biodome. By the time she knows that, she was no longer shocked. She accepted it pretty easily considering that she will be facing more strange things in the future. But that's the story of another time. Right now let's see what her two elder brothers are doing to buy fruits.

"What's wrong?" Berson looks up from his computer to his elder brother, Blake. Blake has been sighing for the past thirty minutes. Berson tried to ignore it first thinking that Blake must be missing his sister. Even though only thirty minutes has passed after he came here. But Blake keeps sighing after every five minutes which disturbed him. He couldn't take it anymore and asks Blake the reason of his downward mood.

"I was actually thinking about something." Blake says after removing the screen that was floating in front of him. Berson also removes his screen and asks "What things?"

Blake again let's out a dramatic sigh and says "Bella wanted to eat fruits. She said she doesn't like to drink nutrition liquid. I asked her what she wanted to eat and she said she wanted to eat fruits."

"Fruits?"

Berson looks at him in puzzlement. He was confused at first but then he suddenly remembers what fruit is and raises his brow at Blake and opens his mouth.

"You mean those round ball like colorful things that grows on....trees?"

Berson questions. He is really surprised that their sister knows about this thing. Even he had a hard time remembering about it even though he has read many books. But how does his sister knows about it? She just learnt their language two weeks ago and can only say simple sentences. He didn't even gave her any book about history. Then how can she knows about it?
