It was the weekend, which meant that Finley could finally hang out with her best friends. She didn't mind not having that many friends at school because she knew that her two best friends that she did have were gonna be with her for life. It was rare that they could all get together on the same day, but here they were, hanging out at Anna's house and making sugar cookies. The ones from the bag mix, because honestly they could barely even follow those instructions so there was no way they were doing anything from scratch. Well that's not totally true. Belle was an excellent baker, like seriously good from flavor to decorating, it was all amazing. But the other two? Yeah, no. They sucked.

"Okay, butter." Anna spoke as she began to unwrap the stick.

""It says it has to be softened." Finley spoke up as she read the back of the bag where the instructions were.

"Okay I'll just throw it in the microwave for a few seconds."

"Softened. Not melted."

"I knowwww." Anna stuck her tongue out at the girl as she tossed the stick onto a plate and then into the microwave.

"There is a big difference between the two." Belle spoke up.

The microwave beeped and Anna removed the softened butter before turning to face her friends. "Do you really have so little faith in me?"

A friendly smirk grew on Finley's face. "I'm just saying you have screwed up this recipe before and there's literally 3 steps. Betty Crocker is rolling over in her grave at the disgrace you have brought to her name."

"Pretty sure she rolled over when they made a 3 step cookie in her name." Belle muttered.

Anna snorted as she dumped the butter into the bowl where the egg had already been cracked. Of course that had been done under the carful supervision of Finley, making sure there had been no pieces of shell that entered the batter. The bowl was handed off to Belle who mixed it together to perfection. They all grabbed a spoon and began placing little dollops of batter onto the baking sheet about 2 inches apart as per the instructions. Once finished, Anna licked her spoon before tossing it into the sink.

Finley's nose wrinkled in disgust. "How do you eat that? Do you want to die?"

"It wouldn't be the worst thing. Death by cookie dough." Anna spoke dramatically holding a hand over her heart.

"Idiot dies of salmonella despite warnings of her best friends," Finley spoke in a newscaster voice and then spoke slightly louder as she held up the packaging. "And clearly stated packaging saying DO NOT EAT RAW COOKIE DOUGH!"

"It's just a suggestion." Anna said rolling her eyes.

"This is why she is going to die first." Finley muttered to Belle who laughed.

They were all basically the same age. All born in the same year, just a few months apart with Finley being the oldest and Belle being the youngest.

"Oh so get this!" Anna said turning around after setting the timer for the cookies placed in the oven. "The other day at school we had those drug sniffing dogs come in. Well this one kid heard and suddenly he had to 'go to the bathroom'. He just took off outta class and ran to flush his stash."

Belle was laughing almost immediately, but Finley frowned slightly. "But they'd still be able to smell it. Dogs can smell scents like a month old."

"Okay that is so not the point of the story!"

Finley was a known dog nerd and proud of it. She had two German Shepherds at home that she absolutely loved to death. They were total sweethearts, but the one was quite large and he scared off anybody that looked at him. No one was breaking into their house with the two dogs barking at them through the door- they had already scared the crap out of neighbors and quite a few delivery men.
