A Cassarian Story
Varian always knew that he cared for Cassandra. But he didn't realize how much until she was gone.
Six long years after Cassandra leaves Corona, she finally returns. Varian is overjoyed, but she comes bearing terrible news. A stran...
"As soon as I saw your mother, for the first time in six years, I knew in that instant that I still had feelings for her," Varian tells Opal, continuing the story. "And I'm pretty sure some sparks where flying for her, too," he adds with a chuckle.
"Only the sparks from that contraption of yours," Cassandra says, entering the room wearing her guard uniform and a smile. She puts her arm around Varian's shoulders and gives him a gentle squeeze.
"Mommy!" Opal shouts excitedly, jumping out of bed to give Cassandra a hug.
"What's going on here? Shouldn't you already be asleep?" Cassandra asks, booping her daughter's nose affectionately.
"Daddy is telling me the story of how you two fell in love!" Opal replies.
"Is that so?" Cassandra says, raising an eyebrow at Varian.
Varian shrugs, smirking. "She asked, and I figured it couldn't hurt."
"Okay then," Cassandra says as she tucks Opal back into her bed. "I want in."
"Sure," Varian says. "But, uh, I was doing just fine on my own."
"Didn't sound like it," Cassandra says, giving him a playful shove. "You shouldn't be giving her inaccurate information. So, where were you guys?"
"You just came back to Corona," Opal informs her.
"Oh yes, the day I returned to Corona..." Cassandra says, recalling her memories of that time.
"Daddy said it was a sad day, but it seems like it would be a happy one to me," Opal says, evidently confused.
Cassandra nods. "I was definitely happy to be back. But what made it sad was the news I had to tell your father..."
"What exactly are you 'not doing'?"
Varian spins around, a surprised expression on his face. "C-Cassandra?"
Cassandra smirks. "The one and only."
Varian blinks a few times, standing motionless. Cassandra has to admit, she expected a bit more of a reaction from him. After all, it has been six years since they've seen each other.
And those six years absolutely show. Varian is no longer the short, skinny kid he was when she last saw him. He remained that kid in her mind, but now there is a man standing in his place. He still has the same stupid goggles and floppy hairstyle, but he has definitely filled out more, and he shot up. He is actually taller than her now! She might even describe him as handsome... If it weren't for the black soot spread across his face at the moment.
Folding her arms, she chuckles as she stares at his hair that is standing up in all different directions due to his invention malfunction. "Well that's definitely a, um... look. Did Fitzherbert style your hair for you?" She says jokingly.
