Sinadya kong gumising nang maaga para maiwasan sina Mommy at Daddy sa breakfast table. I used to get upset whenever I had to eat alone, but now I like it better. I find it peaceful.
"Hoy! Bakit yupi 'yong mga papel na pinabili ko kahapon?" bulalas ni Kuya na bigla na lamang sumulpot sa tabi ko. May kasama pang pambabatok.
Inirapan ko siya at patuloy na kumain. "Binalibag ni Sawyer."
"Na-bad trip sa 'yo?" kunot-noo niyang tanong. "Pansin ko nga bad trip siya kahapon pagbalik n'yo."
Napabuntong-hininga na lamang ako. "It's nothing. We're cool now."
"Nah, you're a couple of losers," aniya sabay halakhak. Nakuha pang mang-asar. "Ano bang ginawa mo at nagalit nang gano'n si Sawyer?"
Hindi na lang ako kumibo. Mas binilisan ko ang pagsubo ng pagkain nang makaalis na agad, pero minalas ako dahil magkasunod na dumating sina Mommy at Daddy.
"Good Morning," Mom said with a sweet smile, kissing my forehead and Kuya's. Akala mo hindi ako pinagalitan nang todo noong isang araw. Actually, ganito talaga siya sa amin ni Kuya mula pagkabata.
Maybe this is her way of declaring peace. . . Her subtle way of saying, "Let's not fight anymore, I love you."
I sure hope that along with this, her mind has changed about my friends.
"I heard you have new friends, Joey," komento bigla ni Daddy nang maupo sa kanyang silya. Nakangiti siya, pero hindi ko sigurado kung may kasunod itong sermon.
Pilit na lamang akong ngumiti at nagtaas-noo. "I have and they're really good people. They take care of me, too."
I heard Kuya chuckle. "SI Joe lang naman ang hindi matino."
I normally bicker with Kuya every time he disses me, but this time, I couldn't help but nod. "Kuya's right! I'm basically the unhinged friend in the group!"
"Joana, don't call yourself that!" Mom was quick to call me out.
"I prefer the word Psychotic." Ngumisi si Kuya at nag-thumbs up.
"Lorenzo! Don't call your sister like that!" My spat out, glaring at him.
Dad sighed and looked at me, ignoring Mom and Kuya's bickering. "Your Mom and I talked about it, and we both agreed that we'll let you hang out with those kids."
Napakurap-kurap ako sa gulat. Hindi ko inaasahang maririnig ko ito mula sa kanila, sa kanya. What changed their mind? Is there a catch?
"Just please, please, don't let that scandalous girl do anything stupid--"
"Mom, she's not scandalous! She's a good girl who made the mistake of loving and trusting the wrong person!" giit ko kaagad.
"Joe, your voice." Mom smiled with gritted teeth. Parang magagalit na naman kaya marahan na lamang akong tumawa at nagtaas ng peace sign.
