"You're needed at table 6."

I life my head to glance towards the far back booth, instantly recognizing the dark head of hair, inked skin at the nape of his neck and the abnormally broad shoulders.

"That's Zoe's table." I mumble as I look back down to my notepad and finish scribbling down the special instructions for my table order.

Nico was strictly Zoe's customer and she's made that abundantly clear when she practically pushed Patty - one of the other waitresses- and threatened to get her fired if she ever tried to serve Nico again.

The joke was on her because none of us actually wanted to serve him in the first place. He was terrifying and that was before we found out our manager, Shay worked for him.

The notepad is pulled out of my hands and I look up to see Shay nodding towards him. "Direct orders."

I don't argue with the intimidating woman and instead send her a tight lipped smile as I make my way through the diner and towards the far booth.

It was late afternoon and my shift had only just started. I'd come straight from a chemistry lab and although juggling a full course load and a job seemed almost impossible, I needed the money.

"You wanted to see me?" I ask coming to a stop at the head of the table.

Nico doesn't look up, he continues to read through the menu in his hands as if he doesn't already have the chef making him his specialty meal in the back.

He tips his chin to the space across from him. "Sit down."

I glance back at Shay to see her eyeing me with disapproval and I hesitate, not wanting to upset the stern woman.

"Need I remind you that you work for me." Comes Nicos cool voice and when he doesn't look up at me, I take the seat across from him with a sigh.

Nico may have technically been my boss, but he was never around to actually do anything. Nor could he be bothered to even care about us. Shay, however, was another story.

Eyeing the man across from me, I make myself comfortable as I wait for him to speak but he doesn't.

He simply continues to skim through the menu and I withhold the urge to roll my eyes. If there was one thing I learned about Nico, it was that he worked on his own time with no regard for anyone else's.

It was as though the world stopped for Nico Blaine and Nico Blaine only.

The glistening of his silver ring catches my eye and I watch as he rubs his lower lip with his thumb in contemplation, still studying the menu.

The urge to rip the menu from his annoyingly large hands comes forth but before I can act, he opens his mouth, cutting off all train of thought with four simple words.

"I'm taking you out."

"What?" I splutter, my face scrunches up in a mix of surprise and bewilderment.
