There truly was nothing comparable to the confusion one faced after a nap.

Especially when you woke up in a foreign place, with no recollection of what had led up to this moment.

I blink as my eyes try to adjust to the harsh light around me.

I could have sworn I was just in the colony, standing over Father Kade's dead body as Nico carried my unconscious best friend out of the cellar.

I finally open my eyes and scratch my forehead as I glance from side to side at the narrow tubed column of space. Various leather seats scatter around us while two rows of circle windows line each side of us.

I lean over and press my face to one of them, my eyes widening as I glance out into the abyss of blue that I can only deem as the sky.

We're in midair.

With a small gasp, I pull back and glance around me, jumping in surprise when I glance directly in front of me at the inked figure seated across from me, his inquisitive gaze glued to me.

"Where are we?" I ask, beyond confused and a little alarmed.

How was it possible that we were in midair?

The lid of the marker in his hand is clicked shut as he resorted to twirling it between his fingers, never once taking his eyes off me. "In an airplane. On our way home."

The confusion momentarily clears, making way for the horror.

No.

We couldn't just get up and leave.

I still had things to take care of.

I hadn't left Daniel a note. Nor did I get any time to find him and stop him or figure out what he was going to do.

"What..." I breathe, automatically shooting upright in my chair, "how was I able to fall asleep through all that-" I stop and clutch my head as a wave of dizziness washes over me.

"You weren't sleeping." Nico's voice is clipped and sounds almost peeved. "You passed out." His eyes sharpen as he glances at me. "Why haven't you been eating?"

My brows furrow at his irrelevant question and I shake my head, there were far more pressing matters. "That doesn't matter." Like what Daniel was up to, "Listen Nico, I think you're in serious danger-"

"I can handle myself just fine." He responds Cooley, his voice is leveled but hard enough to tell me there's no room for argument. His eyes narrow at me. "Now, answer my fucking question. Have you been eating?"

I open my mouth to tell him that this isn't a matter he should be brushing off, but he sends me a withering look.

One that has me shutting up and answer his question. I deflate in my chair and cross my arms. "I forgot."

It was true, between Nico's arrival in The Colony, Marie's nagging about my weight and trying to find Ella, I just... forgot to eat.
