CHAPTER THREE:
❝︎Just A Mission❞︎

SHE WAS ABSOLUTELY AND UTTERLY TERRIFIED. His name alone sounded intimidating to Raelynn and if Natasha Romanoff intimidated her, she had a feeling that being face to face with Nick Fury would cause for her to stumble over her words which would ultimately result in her embarrassing herself. Raelynn grew more and more nervous the closer that they grew to Nick Fury's office, and she couldn't help but notice how calm Natasha seemed to be and Raelynn couldn't help but wish she was as calm as the redhead.

She watched as they made it to the top floor before Natasha made it to a wooden door, knocking three times before a faint voice could be heard telling Natasha to come in. Natasha turned her head to look at Raelynn, silently asking the woman if she was ready for this and by the amused smirk that had pulled at Natasha's lips Raelynn knew that her face had betrayed her and she had allowed for the fear to break through. Natasha knew the woman was scared, that's why she gave her a shoulder a small squeeze before pushing the door open and closing it behind Raelynn as she entered Nick Fury's office.

The blonde didn't know what to do. She didn't know whether or not she should move closer to his desk, wait for him to speak to her, say something so that he acknowledge her presence even though she knew that Fury knew that she was already standing there. He had heard her footsteps enter the office after all. She found herself extremely tense, wringing her wrist as she swallowed thickly as she felt awkwardness take over and her face to flush red in embarrassment.

"Well don't just stand there like a damn soldier at attention." Fury scoffed. His voice suddenly entering the room caused for Raelynn to jump three feet in the air. His voice was stern, and it definitely matched his face. One eye was covered with an eyepatch, the ends of scars could be seen around the patch. His other eye stared directly at her, such a coldness laced within them it made Raelynn shivered. She swallowed thickly as she carefully made her way across the room until she reached his desk and he motioned for her to sit. She was quick to do so, almost missing the seat in the process, making her quick to reach out in order to catch herself before she fell to the floor.

She silently cursed herself, swallowing thickly as she adjusted herself before noticing the man watching her intently causing for her entire body to tense, making her freeze in place. She knew that he was going to be intimidating, but she didn't realize just how intimidating he was going to be. Suddenly Raelynn wished that she had decided to go to the lab to get poked and prodded before coming to this man's office.

"A little tense, are we?" Fury questioned the girl. "The last time I saw anyone this tense was when I caught Barton's daughter hanging out with her boyfriend when they were supposed to be at high school. What did Romanoff tell you about me?"

"She said you were blunt and that if I found her intimidating then I definitely would find you intimidating." Raelynn answered, trying her best to keep her voice steady. She was surprised that her voice had decided to crack on her, and suddenly she realized why she had stayed in hiding so long. People made her nervous, and it made her conscious of how much effort it took to control her powers.

Fury simply nodded before he pulled out a file and slapped it onto the desk, making Raelynn jump in surprise. He rose an eyebrow in amusement at this before opening the file and spinning it around so that it was facing her. He pushed it towards her slightly before leaning back in his chair as he looked at the blonde. "Raelynn Quinn, powers are unknown, all we know about you miss Quinn is that your parents are dead and your sister is with the X-Men. Besides that, we have no clue who the hell you are and what you can do."

"If you knew so little about me, then why did your agent seem so determined to find me and bring me in?" Raelynn shot back, and she immediately straightened at her tone of voice, waiting for Fury to snap back. All he did was laugh in amusement. She had made the man laugh, and suddenly she felt accomplished.

"What I do know about you, Miss Quinn, is that you are a dangerous person with dangerous powers. And I got my best agent to bring you in because she's very persuasive, and I had a feeling that she was going to be the only to ever convince you to leave and come here." Fury answered her honestly. "We want to help make the world a better place. And helping you allows us to accomplish that mission."

Raelynn found herself clenching her jaw as she cocked her head slightly. "So, I'm just a mission to you?"

"The way I see it, you're a woman who needs our help in order to live a normal life." Fury told the woman, reaching over to grab onto the file, placing it back where he had it before. "The question is whether or not you will allow us to do that."

Raelynn looked at him for a moment, narrowing her eyes before she pushed the blonde hair away that had fallen into her eyes. "I'd like to speak to Willow first. According to Natasha. . . she knows what I'm going through. So, let me talk to her, and I'll get back to you on that question."

"Go for it." Fury nodded. "I'll be here." And then he said nothing else, causing for the blonde to stand up and quickly leave the office, letting out a relieved breath as she did so before going on the hunt for Willow Michaels.
