Untouchable - maya and carina

chapter 4 - the first touch

Mayas POV

It is dr DeLuca's first day working on the PRT and I'm not going to lie I'm nervous to be around her again. I've never been around someone who's touched me after they did it because I usually shout at them and scare them off but this time, I'm going to have to work with her and see her whenever she has a shift with us.

something was different this time though. I didn't feel as scared when it happened and I feel overall a lot more comfortable around her than I do with anyone else, but I was worried that after what happened that would all go away.

As if she could read my mind she walked into the station and started talking to Travis who was working reception today.

I didn't want to interrupt so I continued filling out paperwork until I heard a knock at the door. I looked up and saw carina standing at the door.

"Hey, can I help you," I said, internally panicking even though I didn't really know why

"hi, I just wanted to see if you were ok and ask where I could find warren," carina said while keeping her distance

"Yeah, I'm good and I think warrens upstairs in the beanery" I replied questioning why she was so hesitant to do anything but brushing it off assuming it was just because it was her first day

She left to go upstairs and I continued working until the claxon went off

Aid car 19

PRT

Carina and warren were in the PRT and I was with Dean in the aid car as we went off to the scene. Everything went smoothly but I noticed that carina still wouldn't come close to me at all and was acting off.

We arrived back at the station and I went to my office like usual and was looking over the latest reports till I felt my phone buzz in my pocket. I pulled it out and looked at the message as I felt fear wash over me.

"Hey kiddo, I heard about you becoming captain, I'm thinking about dropping by sometime soon, what station are you at?"

I sat there frozen in fear staring at a message from the one person I fear the most. I could feel my chest getting tighter and tears filling my eyes until I broke down and ran into my bunk as I fell onto my bed. I sat there sobbing, unable to breathe till I heard a knock at the door.

"Maya are you in here" I heard a familiar voice call out from my office

I somehow felt even worse and found it increasingly harder to breathe as the door to my bunk opened. I jumped at the noise and saw carina standing there staring at me

I pushed myself further away from the door knowing that she doesn't know that I don't like being touched and due to what happened last time it was highly likely that she would try to do it again

"hey it's just me, don't worry" carina said

I still couldn't calm myself down and was still gasping for air until I saw carina close the door to the bunk and sit on the floor against it

"Maya, I'm staying here, I'm not going to come any closer"

I felt relieved knowing that she at least wasn't going to touch me

"I can't-   I-  I can't breathe," I said in-between gasps for air

"hey, Maya look at me"

I looked up hesitantly and my eyes met hers. they were the most beautiful things I had ever seen. they were a hazel brown and you could just feel how much she cared when you looked at them. looking at her eyes alone had calmed me down a bit.
