chapter 6 - safe

Mayas POV

I went into the spare room, and everything was laid out nicely and the bed was really comfy but for some reason, I was just laying staring at the ceiling. I felt scared for some reason. 

For the past few nights, I haven't slept at all, I've stayed up working because there was nothing else to do. I didn't really know what else to do so I decided to text carina

M = can u sleep?

C = not really, can you?

M = me neither

C = do you want to come to my room?

I didn't think there was much point in replying so I got up and knocked on her door

"Come in" carina spoke from inside

I walked in and carina patted the bed next to her. I climbed on the bed but kept some distance, still feeling scared of everything.

"Are you ok, Bella?" she asked quietly

I didn't want to make her feel like she was doing something wrong, so I decided to just nod.

"You can speak to me, Bambina," she said obviously sensing something was off

"I just- "I started before feeling my eyes fill up with tears

"Hey Bella, breathe"

"I'm scared," I said as I felt a tear run down my cheek

"Of what?" she asked

"Of everything," I said while tears continued to fall

"Oh, Maya," she said. I could tell she was trying really hard not to touch me

I decided to cut some of the tension and grabbed her hand. I saw her eyes filling up and instantly felt bad for saying anything

"No, no, no, I didn't mean to make you upset, I shouldn't have said anything," I said quickly

"No, I'm happy Bella," she said laughing lightly

"Can I do something I haven't done in a very long time?" I asked through tears

"Sure Bella, what is it"

I couldn't really believe I was really about to do this, but I took a breath and wrapped my arms around her. She hesitated a bit before pulling me even closer as we sobbed into each other.

We stayed like this for a while before we layed down and I put my head on her chest. For the first time in forever, I felt safe

Carina was safe

Mayas POV

It was the following afternoon, and I was sitting on the sofa at carinas house while she was busy with something in the kitchen.

I had felt off all day, ever since my dad showed up, it ignited something in me. I figured it wasn't anything too serious and it would pass on its own, so I didn't bother carina with my nonsense.

I was sitting there for a few minutes until I could hear somebody behind me and felt my breath hitch in my throat. I knew it was only carina behind me and she was just trying to play some sort of joke but for some reason, that wouldn't register in me.

"Boo!" carina says softly from behind me followed by a soft laugh

Before I could even process what was happening, I jumped up off the sofa and spun around to look at who was behind me. My chest was tight, and I couldn't see straight until my eyes finally laid upon my dad standing in front of me.
