chapter 34 - back to work

Maya's POV

"I know I said I wouldn't push you, but you haven't touched anything in 4 days carina," I say to carina who is lying in bed, refusing to eat anything

"I can't Maya"

"I'm going to get something, I'll be back," I say as I get up

"don't try coming back in here with food," she says as I go into the kitchen where ava and Olivia were

"Has she eaten anything?" ava asks

"No, I'm going to try something else, I just don't want to have to call Amelia and get her on a drip or something" I sigh

"I know," ava says sadly before I grab what I need and go back into our room

"what's that?" carina asks

"a protein shake, I know you won't eat anything, but you said drinking is easier than eating so I got you this"

"I can't Maya," she said again, burying her face in the pillows

"Listen carina, I know this is shit but I really don't want you to have to go to the hospital where they will force a tube down your nose and pump a bunch of rubbish into you so please meet me halfway and have some of this."

"I'm not having all of it," she says, making me smile as I was happy if she just agreed to have a bit of it

"that's fine, just have as much as you can," I say handing her the water bottle

"Come here," I say holding my arms out so she can sit against the headboard with me

"what's in it?" she asks

"That doesn't matter-,"

"Maya" she interrupts

"it's just fruit and a powder with vitamins and stuff in it," I say as she just stares at it

"Come on," I say, lifting the bottle up as she lets some go into her mouth

"swallow," I say as she just keeps it in her mouth, swallowing after a while

"Good girl" I whisper

"How much have I got to have?" she asks

"at least until that line," I say pointing to a line on the side of the bottle that has the timings of the day on it. It's meant to help you keep track of how much water you have a day, so I was just trying to get her to drink up until the first line

"that's too much Maya"

"it's either that or I will send ava in here and we both know she will pour the whole bottle down your throat" I laugh

"fine" she sighs, taking another sip

After sitting with her for half an hour, I managed to convince her to drink it and went outside to talk to ava and Olivia who were sitting on the couch

"Did she drink anything?" ava asks

"That much," I say, holding up the cup, showing her the tiny amount

"Well, it's better than nothing" she sighs

"Yeah, and I put a ton of powder in it so it should be enough nutrients to last today, I'm going to have to tell Amelia though," I say, getting my phone out

I call her and ask her to come over as I felt like it wasn't the sort of thing you discuss over the phone and like always, she asked if she could bring kai.
