otis last saw ruby matthews the night he was abandoned in France. he took to opportunity to kiss the girl who he had been dreaming of since he laid eyes on her. this was seen by ruby, heartbroken by otis herself.
ruby disappeared from moordale witho...
I found myself falling asleep in my maths class, sitting next to Eric as the teacher droned on explaining what was required for the end of year exams. My younger sister Joy had learnt that staying up all night meant she was able to have the company of the whole household. My mother would explain I would do the same at her age.
Eric was once again scrolling through social media. I ignored what content he was looking at, I learned long ago not to look over while he was surfing the internet.
That is until Eric is slamming his hand into my shoulder to get my attention. My body is jolted awake as I send a glare his way. He had slapped me harder than needed. "Otis, look!" He ushers me to look at his phone screen.
There I see he had an unopened message notification from Noah, the contents of the message were private as he had sent two messages. "Maybe he's telling you to stop messaging him," I suggest as Eric opens the messages.
I browse through the message, as Eric read it as well.
Good morning/evening Eric.
Thank you for the constant stream of messages during the course of almost three months. I have very much enjoyed your words, both kind and upsetting. Thank you for giving me insight into a missing person case regarding a classmate of yours.
I do agree with the similarities between my friend and your classmate. However, I am saddened to announce that they are not the same person, as awesome as it would be to give you the outcome her family would desire.
I do hope you take care.
Noah.
Along with the message he had also attached an image showing the back of two figures as they stand in front of a waterfall. The guy, I am assuming is Noah is holding up his hand gesture as the female standing beside him just grabs on to the hat on her head.

"Well, there is your answer," I mention as Eric puts his phone down in defeat. "It's pretty clear he doesn't want any more communication with you."
"I suppose you're right." He mutters as the bell rings. Meaning the end of the school day was finally upon us. "You don't think I should just send a message to thank him?"
I shake my head as I gather my books to return them back to my locker. "Honestly just drop it, Eric," I say before going ahead to my locker to grab my bag and quickly exit the school campus on my bike.
Waiting beside my bike was Maeve. There she had her headphones in blasting with music as I approach her. "Hey, Maeve." I greet putting my helmet on.
"Hey, Otis." She greets back with a smile. "Want some company on your trip home?"
"I suppose so," I suggest.
Instead of riding my bike, I walk along the pathways with Maeve. We discuss the preparations for the upcoming mock exams he had before the final exams. "You feeling nervous?" She asks.
"Just terrifying that we'll be adults soon, going off in the big world alone," I admit.
This amuses Maeve. "You're a smart kid Otis, you'll work it out." She assures me. "Eric sent me a screenshot of the message from that guy that's dating the Ruby lookalike."
Of course, Eric did, I mutter in my thoughts.
"Short and sharp, the girl isn't Ruby," I say suddenly. "Why are we still going on about this?"
"Nothing interesting happens in Moordale at the best of times." She explains sighing.
