Otis POV

With the weeks that pass I had spent it avoiding my mother for various reasons and had offered my services to catch Ruby up on the missed education, due to her disappearance. She had made the decision to finish off her high school education, so she would be able to maintain future employment.

It was frustrating to see her go through different emotions due to the pregnancy and trying to study. I felt like she was pushing herself too hard to please those around her by filling her time before the baby arrived. Although I couldn't say a thing since I just wanted to put my best interests aside for her happiness.

One afternoon in the library, I was using a free period to study with Ruby who had finally mustered the courage to return to the school campus. There we are interrupted by the loud voice of Maeve, it startles Ruby who glares in her direction. "Too scared you have to stalk the baby daddy's every movement?" Maeve asks.

"Fuck off Maeve, I don't have time for your bullshit today," Ruby mutters reading a passage in her maths book.

I am given a pleading look from Maeve, which I ignore. We had both been avoiding each other's company and she had to return the moment she saw Ruby. "There was less bullshit when you left the country," Maeve says taking the seat next to Ruby, who just rolls her eyes at her mockery. "You should've stayed there."

"You're right Maeve, I was given less of a headache from bitchy girls like yourself." Ruby retorts. "So you got to say your insults, mind fucking off?"

"It's a free country, I can do as I please," Maeve says placing her black boots on top of the table. Covering the notes previously written by the pair of us. Maeve turns her attention to my eyesight. "Just like I could fuck Otis in this library."

"Are...you openly admitting you intend t...o...rape me?" I stutter out.

This earns a head shake from Maeve, with Ruby avoiding the conversation by hiding her head behind the thick book. "It's not rape if there are two consenting parties."

There is a burst of laughter from Ruby as she throws her book down on the table. "Why would Otis consent to a girl who has done nothing but act like a psycho because she's not getting her way and feels threatened by the existence of his ex-girlfriend?"

"You probably raped Otis in the first place to get yourself knocked up. Congratulations on ruining more than one life." Maeve mutters, glaring at Ruby.

"Alright, that's enough!" I announce, fed up with the constant bickering. "Maeve get over your issues, I'm done trying to reason with you."

There is a hurt expression on her face, as I let out a sigh. "It's pathetic for me to be caught between two girls that clearly hate each other, but Maeve you have to understand I care about Ruby almost as much as you. She is carrying my child after all." I explain.

The comment seems to bother Ruby, who packs up the bag of her books and pens. "I think I've heard enough." She murmurs before trying to exit the library as quickly as possible.

"Well, it looks like only one of us is here to stay." Maeve comments, a satisfied smirk on her face. "Since you clearly still clear about me, how about we pick up where we left off in France?"

"No," I state simply.

Getting up from my chair I throw my belongings into my own bag. Exiting the library I head in the direction I watched Ruby run in, as she was trying to wrap her jacket around her stomach. There were already enough comments about her situation with her being out of school. "Ruby!" I call out into the empty hallways.

"New Kid." The familiar voice of Adam shocks me, as it came from behind me. I turn to face the taller teenager. "Ruby left the campus with Eric, clearly very upset. What did you do this time?"

I catch up on my breath from running out of the library. Before I could get a word in, Maeve catches up. "Otis admitted his true feelings and chose me over the slut that claims is pregnant with his child." Maeve's tone is expressionless.

I look at her in horror. "I suppose I'll see you later babes since you won't have any plans." There is a small kiss planted on my cheek, I stand there frozen. Not knowing how to handle the situation emotionally. "Bye Adam!" Maeve calls walking away.

"Why do you have to fuck up every chance you get with Ruby?" Adam asks sighing.

"It's...not like she's saying!" I utter my words quickly.

"Well, you better spit it out quickly before I teach you a lesson," Adam says holding his fist out like he was preparing to throw a punch in my direction.

"I'm not dating Maeve!" I yell. "She's inserting herself into my life to create drama with Ruby. From my perspective, things were going well with Ruby until Maeve fucked it up by lying."

"Well, you're on damage control" Adam mentions.

"Wait, since when are you close with Ruby?" I ask curiously. Adam always seemed to step in at the right time.

Adam shrugs. "You help those in need sometimes." He says. "I would've stuck around but it seemed like Eric had it covered." There was still awkwardness between the couple due to the breakdown of their relationship.

"Well that is kind of Eric," I mutter.
