Otis POV

The time Ruby spent in the hospital was short, she was released and we ventured back to her parent's house for her to recover. I had offered to drive Ruby's father in her car since she had arrived with her mother and I had ventured from the grocery store.

This meant I had ten minutes to endure parting advice. "So how did your mother react to the news she was a grandmother this morning?" Roland asks, his eyes captivated looking out the window.

I let out a sigh. "She sent congratulations and I had a lot of maturing to do within the next few days," I answer honestly. "She wasn't the most pleased to become a grandmother in the first place."

Roland lets out a short laugh. "Honestly when I learnt that Ruby had run off because you had knocked her up I wanted to send my buddies after you." His tone meant he was joking, but the threat would've been true at the time. "But once she got back you've stuck around and proved to me that you will take care of my daughter."

I take the words seriously. It was a kind thing for Roland to say. "What was the worst part about raising a kid?" I ask, I hadn't had the opportunity to ask any adult that question.

"Otis," He pauses to take a breath. "There is no right or wrong answer to raise a child. There is stress but there is also joy, it's no easy task raising a child. All that matters is you and Ruby being a team to make that baby happy and healthy, that's all anyone could ask for." He explains. "Worst part for me has been the teenage years."

The two of us laugh. "So the changing diapers isn't so bad?" I ask pulling into his driveway.

"I would take the shitty nappies over dealing with the attitude of a teenage daughter any day." He answers seriously. "But I wouldn't change Ruby for anything, I love her and she is going to be an amazing mother after she gets past her anxiety."

I completely agreed with Roland. Ruby's stress about raising our daughter was her one fear. She thought she wasn't going to be good enough like everyone had told her because she is too young to be a mother.

I help Roland out of the car and direct him into his house. Setting him up in his bedroom as Ruby's mother exits Ruby's bedroom with a bottle in hand. "Well Ruby is sleeping and I've just put bub's down." She explains. "You're welcome to sleep on the couch and listen out for Ruby or the baby waking up."

I nod with the instructions and decline the offer for the couch, I wanted to wait in Ruby's room. She had a window sleep which was surprisingly comfortable. There I was able to see Ruby wrapped up in her blankets and our daughter sleeping in the bassinet next to her bed. They both looked peaceful, it created a joy inside of my body.

What brought me out of my slumber was Maddy crying from the bassinet. The sun outside indicated it was late afternoon. Letting out a yawn I reach for the newborn in my arms attempting to calm her. The noise of our daughter causes Ruby to awake from her own slumber. "Sorry." She chimes sleepily.

"Alright mummy and daddy, you two are going to have to practise making your own bottles!" Ruby's mother announces as she comes into the room with a freshly made warm bottle of milk. "Who's feeding her this time?"

"I will." I offer. I knew if Ruby had been breastfeeding there would be more stress on her for waking during the night. Although she had chosen not to attempt breastfeeding due to her not developing enough milk, this meant we have to rely on formula.

It meant I was able to help more. Ruby's mother hands me the bottle and makes sure I was following the instructions the nurses had given me during my time at the hospital. Satisfied after Madison had taken the bottle she exits the room.

That's when I notice a flash from a camera beside me go off. I tear my gaze away from my daughter to see Ruby taking a picture on her cellphone capturing a new memory. "Daddy really is a quick learner." She mentions.

I give her a sarcastic look. "I don't do many good things right but giving out sex advice and feeding babies seem to be a top priority." I casually mention causing Ruby to burst out laughing.

"Have to have your talents Millburn." She mentions as Madison was finishing up with the bottle. Ruby wanted to burp her so I hand her over quickly. "Isn't it weird we now have a baby and they just let us take her home?"

I hadn't thought about it until this point. "I suppose...it's scarier we're responsible to keep her alive," I answer honestly. "Did you let Noah know?"

Ruby shakes her head. "We'll call him after I've burped her and had a shower. I smell terrible." There is a disgusted look on her face.

After Ruby had finished up in the shower she picks up her phone and scrolls through her contacts and dials Noah for a video call. I was holding a sleeping baby in my arms while Ruby has a cheeky look on her face as Noah answers the call. "Ruby! Do you have good news for me?"

"Please tell me it's a Noah Junior or I will be happy with a Noel if it's a girl!" His voice sounds hopeful as Ruby turns the camera to be pointed directly at me. "Yes! a kick-ass little Noel."

There is laughter from Ruby. "Sadly I hated that name so I decided on Madison Alyssa, but you still get to be the awesome god-father." She mentions.

"She's cute!" Noah comments. "I can't wait to venture over to meet her once the summer season is over. It's crazy busy."

"I'm sure Eric doesn't mind trying to be the favourite uncle in the meantime!" I mention. Ruby and I had decided on both Eric and Noah being the godparents. There was still some distrust towards her former friends.
