"How cute." The comment was spat from Maeve's mouth like venom. I knew my return to Moordale meant she felt threatened, the hate-love relationship ended when she taunted me for kissing Otis. "So did you really pick the closet guy you remember hooking up with as the father?" She asks looking down at my growing stomach.

It made me feel self-counsious as I wrap my jacket tighter around my body. "Why don't you just mind your own fucken business?" I challenge.

There is a bitter laugh that escapes Maeve's mouth. "You seem so defensive about it Ruby, you hiding something?"

Otis decides to speak up, the shock alone of seeing Maeve so bitter about my return was enough to make me want to spill out words that made no sense. "Maeve, drop it." He mutters. "Stop this bullshit, I'm sick of it."

"I'm just looking out for you." Maeve defends herself. "I'm just worried that Ruby is just using you."

"I don't need to have a friend that is constantly trying to sabatouge my chance to get to know my future child. You need to get over yourself and accept the fact I will be a father." He retorts to the girl, putting her in her place. "But if it's something you can't accept I think we're better off going our separate ways."

"so you're breaking up with me, for this slut?" Maeve asks, tears spilling from her eyes.

The question makes me remove my hand from Otis'. "Wait you guys are dating?" I asked. The only information I gathered was that they were just friends and yet Maeve felt threatened because I had taken away Otis from her before.

"Otis, you didn't tell Ruby we were dating?" Maeve asks, challenging the boy whos face had turned red with anger.

"We're not dating." He corrects the girl. "You haven't made up for mind what you want from me."

Maeve shrugs. "You know how I feel about you, we may as well be in a relationship. I don't want anyone to come between us." She gives a disgusted look in my direction.

The gesture makes me roll my eyes. "Well it seems the both of you have communication issues." I comment. "Maeve as fantastic as our decussions are the sight of you is making me nauous."

"Maybe you should've kept your legs shut then." Maeve retorts making me laugh.

"Maybe you should have asked your boyfriend to bring protection." I mutter turning to the boy. "You decide what you want to do, with her."

I venture off towards home, ignoring the calls from Otis to come back. I walked across the street and pulled Noah away from his conversation with Aimee about her cupcakes. He always had a liking towards girls that enjoyed a dark humour. "I almost got her number!" He complains.

"She's in high school still." I remind him. "You're an adult man-child who doesn't need a criminal record in a foreign country."

Noah sighs in defeat. "What happened to your baby daddy?" He asks as we're walking towards my parent's house.

"He sorting out his relationship." I comment before remaining silent for the rest of the short trip.

It would be hours later in the day, when a storm had blown through the small village of Moordale. I had spent the evening listening to the constant chatter between my father and Noah as I try to focus on the TV in front of me that was playing the local news report.

There is a knock at the front door. I sigh getting up as both men were too busy discussing rugby.

Opening the door I reveal Otis who had been drenched from the downpour outside. "What are you doing here?" I ask, pulling him into the small walkway we had outside the front door. "The weather is horrible."

"I told Maeve I'm done, there was no relationship between us to begin with." He explains, catching his breath.

"Otis," I begin. "You don't need to end all your friendships because they don't agree with you coming a father to my child. I understand if it is too hard." My tone is serious.

"I don't think it would be a healthy upbringing if Maeve was around to poison our daughter against you." He explains, placing a wet hand on my stomach, creating an outline of his hand on my shirt. "I'm here for the both of you, I'm just sorry it wasn't sooner."

"I told you no apologies, I was the one that ran." I say seriously. "I think you should just give Maeve time, I know she's been there to support you through a lot."

"If she was a true friend she would be supporting me rather than going around spreading rumours about you." He reasons. "Before I'm even open to accepting her as a friend again she has a lot to make up for."

"You should come in, get dry." I offer, which he just shakes his head.

"I'm needed at home, I just wanted to tell you and make sure you're alright." He explains.

"I'm doing fine." I explain, which causes a smile to break out on Otis' face.
