Clay POV.

Our group waited outside of the house, watching what was happening inside. As the living room and kitchen was destroyed, as George’s family was held still, and as he was dragged downstairs looking beaten and bloody.

I wanted to run in there and kill all of those peacekeepers who were hurting the brunette. Then I’d take him and make sure he was okay, and insure that he’d never have to see these people again.

Nick seemed to realise what I was planning on doing, because he grabbed my shoulder ensuring that I didn’t run in and do exactly that. Although I wanted to pull his hand off and run to help George I knew I couldn’t, so I just had to wait for the opportunity to swerve in and grab him.

We listened intently to what they were saying, well it was only the head peacekeeper talking as he taunted the 4 people being held by some more peacekeepers. Eventually we decided to act natural, walk through the open door while holding our weapons as though we were actual peacekeepers.

The 5 of us walked through, Charlie, Alex, and myself headed in first, and Karl and Nick stood behind us. The head peacekeeper barely glanced at us as he continued to taunt them, before leaning away from George with a smirk.

“It would be nice to stay and chat with you all but there is a train waiting that will be taking you to the Capitol.” he stated, turning to look at our group for a moment before looking back at the peacekeepers holding the 4 people in front of us. All of those peacekeepers had their guns in their holster, and held George and his friend tightly on their upper arms.

“Why don’t you four, take these 3 to the train.” each of the 4 peacekeepers nodded and began forcing the group out of the house.
We stood to the side and let them out before turning to follow them. We couldn’t get anywhere before the head peacekeeper told us to stop.

“You 5,” he said, directing at us and causing all of the peacekeepers to look in our direction. “I don’t remember telling you 5 to come up here.” He stated, raising an eyebrow in suspicion.
“No, you didn’t.” Charlie stated. “We thought we saw someone sneaking up here to the village so we came to investigate. It was just you guys.”

The head peacekeeper looked at us, seeming like he was still suspicious of us. And it seemed as though he could see who we were from through the mask. “While you 5 go back to where you were meant to be. But I will be having a word with all of you tomorrow morning.”

I nodded and from the corner of my eyes I could see the others doing the same. We turned around and left, walking at a pace that was fast enough to stop us from getting yelled at to hurry up but not fast enough to catch up with the group in front of us.

All of us exchanged a look and kept glancing over our shoulders to see if the head peacekeeper or anyone else was watching us. After a while we were out of sight of the village, almost directly in the middle, between it and the main part of the District.

Around 30 feet in front of us the 4 peacekeepers were still leading the 4 people. George was limp and was being dragged along the floor. Behind him was a girl and a boy, the girl who seemed sad but was quiet, and the boy who was shouting insults at the peacekeeper dragging George. Beetee was being pushed in his wheelchair by the last peacekeeper.

All of us exchanged a glance as we nodded in agreement before charging at the peacekeepers, our weapons in hand. We didn’t shoot at them, since we could accidently hurt George or the people with him. When we reached them I began by hitting the peacekeeper who was holding the girl, in the back of the head with the butt of my peacekeeper rifle.

The girl let out a yelp as she spun around and looked at us with wide, teary eyes. The other peacekeepers spun around too, all grabbing their weapons. Beetee managed to grab the one holding him and yanked his arm back before twisting it. The peacekeeper yelped as the mentor grabbed his rifle and hit him over the head with it, knocking him unconscious.

Nick and Karl immediately ran over and began fighting with the peacekeeper holding the tall unnamed boy and I ran over to the peacekeeper holding George. The peacekeeper was preparing to fight and held up his gun, pushing George to the ground and aiming it at me.

My eyes switched between watching him and watching George, as I saw the brunette close to passing out. I only looked back at the peacekeeper in time to see him throwing a swift punch at me. Immediately I ducked before reaching forward and grabbing his hand and pulling him right over me before he collided with the ground.

He groaned out in pain but when I kicked him in the head he fell silent. I let out a sigh before turning to the group watching me. All of them had their eyes wide as they stared in my direction, besides the boy who was examining George.

I walked over to kneel beside him and examine the brunette, giving a content sigh that I could see him again. Now that the boy and George were side by side I could see their similarities, they are brothers.

“Hi,” I said quietly as me and George’s brother looked over him.
“Hi.” he responded. “My name is Wilbur… what is yours?”
“Mine’s Clay.” I replied. “Me and my friends are here to get you guys out of here.”

Wilbur looked over at the other peacekeepers and I did the same, my friends were all pulling the weapons off of the unconscious group on the ground. “We should probably get going.” I stated, lifting up George in my arms and holding him close as I stood up.

The rest of the group nodded, and they grabbed the girl, Wilbur, and Beetee, all of whom looked scared again. “Don’t worry,” Nick reassured from behind George’s brother. “This is just so no other peacekeepers get suspicious.”

We began leading them through the streets which had the peacekeepers all hanging around with their weapons in their hands. They sent us some glances before looking away. “Is there anyone else who needs to come with us?” Nick asked, leaning close to Wilbur’s ear so it was a whisper.

The girl responded. “Yeah. We need to get Zak.” she stated. “I know where he lives.”
“You do Niki?” Wilbur asked.
The girl, Niki, nodded. “I went to visit him a lot after the games, to make sure he was okay after losing Darryl.”

I cringed as I heard the name Darryl, remembering what I did to him. But Karl, who was holding Niki, nodded. So after a 10 minute detour to collect Zak and the small dog he had with him called Rat we headed to the station.

We reached our train and led all 4 of the conscious people from the District onboard before I carried George on. A woman was standing in the hallway who immediately ran up to Wilbur and hugged him. The taller looked confused but when she pulled away from the hug his eyes watered. “Mum?” he questioned, and the woman responded by hugging him.

I decided to leave the reunion and carried George to the barracks. I carried him over to my bunk bed and laid him down. Once I made sure he was comfortable I changed out of the peacekeeper uniform and went to get a first aid kit to bandage his wounds.
