Alejandro's P.O.V

"Valentino saved me from the fire and took care of me."

Madre gasped as Camila said. With Xavier, I swiftly interfered.

Camila asks, perplexed, "What's going on?"

Padre murmured, "She doesn't know?" I nodded.

Madre instantly answers, "My, no dear, nothing's wrong," and pulls her into an embrace.

"Now, now," Madre says as Camila continues to stare at us, "why don't we go to the dining room and prepare while the gentlemen have a chat?" Camila nods.

She glanced at me as she went away with Gretchen and Madre.

As they finally left, father quickly looked at Valentino.

"Che diavolo stai facendo adesso Valentino?" Padre said and grabbed his collar.

(Translation: what the heck are you doing now Valentino?!)

"You know the agreement, you maniac, why the fuck did you have to abduct her?" Xavier said, and Valentino chuckled.

"As I said, I'd get her and know that your wife is one step closer to falling in love with me, and one step closer to hating you even more." He smirked, and I punched him in the face.

"Non dirlo mai, cazzo! Tra di noi sei tu quella che ha danneggiato di più il suo cuore se sa la verità.," I said trying to control my anger as he got up and wiped his bleeding nose.

(Translation: Never fucking say that! Between us, you are the one who will damage her more if she knows the truth.)

"You'll never defeat me," he sneered.

As Padre paced around the room, I exclaimed, "Vaffanculo," and Xavier swiftly tried to calm me down.

He grins and adds, "I wasn't the one who exploited her in the first place, she hates you now." I hurry out of the room, not wanting to strike him any harder.

I took a step outside onto the balcony and gazed at the bleak sky. I let out a sigh and laid my palm on the handrail.

When the marriage contract began, I was still a child, and Valentino and I were closest friends. The first time I met Camila was at a ball when she was around 16 years old and dressed magnificently. Her eyes took me off surprise, and she smiled.

I had a girlfriend at the time, Nesta. Nesta caught me, left me, and accused me of cheating as my interest in growing in Camila. Camila was someone I despised. She wrecked my relationship; I despised her so much at the time that I convinced myself she was nothing more than a gold digger who would use me, but I had no idea I'd fall in love with her at the time. I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to live without her embraces and kisses. And now that she learns the truth about what happened to her family, she will despise me for lying to her.

Instead of lying to her and breaking her heart, I should have told her sooner.

She'll have to find out someday. Madre cared so passionately about Valentino that she doesn't want anybody to know about the awful things he did, which is why I'm doing this for her.

"Are you hiding something from me?" I hear a voice say from behind me as I turn around to face Camila. She approached me, took a seat next to me, and gazed up at the sky.

"Deep thoughts?" she said, and I nodded with a murmur, which elicited a giggle from her.

"What happened to your hand?" she asks as she examines my bruised and swollen knuckles, and I hastily back up.
