I watch apprehensively as Stephanie rocks Lola to sleep

It took two hours of my frantic efforts and Lola's piercing cries before I caved in and called

"She was just a little hungry," Stephanie says brightly

"I'd fed her," I snap back bitterly

Ignoring me, Stephanie kisses her forehead

"You're going to wake her up if you keep doing that" I say tired and defeated

She continues ignoring me and leaves the lounge

Stephanie comes back down and picks up her bag

"I've got work in five hours but feel free to call me anytime, okay Kay?"

Nodding my head I help her out and thank her

Upstairs, I go to her nursery and stare down at her as she breathes softly

I need to sleep

I don't

I just watch her

Half an hour later she begins to cry again
