Chapter 4: Snatch her son away?

Jaehyun was determined to make things right after a night of staying up and thinking things through.

When morning came, he went to knock on Yeri's room door. Yeri opened the door with the little boy in her arms.

"Pass him to me, you need your rest too." Jaehyun stretched his arms out to carry the boy over to him.

Yeri then looked at her elder brother with an amused look, "It's okay, he is cute! But we don't know his name yet"

Jaehyun then looked down at the boy in his arms and asked gently, "what's your name?"

The boy simply looked at Jaehyun with his big eyes, probably trying to know who this stranger is. When Yeri could no longer take the silence, she then said, "Oh ya, I think his mother might not have brought enough of his belongings over yesterday, so are you planning to fetch more over from her?"

Jaehyun shrugged, "probably."

After Jaehyun's mum changed the little boy out and fed him his milk, Jaehyun drove him to the military hospital. Chaeyoung was busy with a surgery, so the receptionist directed him to Chaeyoung's office to take a seat while he waits. 

Surprisingly, the little boy did not fuss throughout. Jaehyun was observing Chaeyoung's simple office when a nurse came in.

"Oh, sorry I didn't know there's someone here. You are waiting for Dr Park?" the nurse asked.

"Oh it's okay, I am just waiting for her here." Jaehyun answered, and the little boy in his arms seemed to get a little excited and started to make some incoherent noise when he saw the nurse.

"I will leave once I place this document." The nurse turned and just as she was about to leave, Jaehyun called out to her, "Excuse me, may I ask you a question?"

"Yes?" the nurse replied in a friendly manner even though she was a little surprised.

"Do you know him?" Jaehyun asked.

"Jeongwoo? Yes, he is Dr Park's son. Dr Park does bring him to work sometimes when she could not find childcare arrangements for him. He is a very well behaved boy." the nurse replied while looking at Jeongwoo with a smile.

"Ah.. Jeongwoo?" Jaehyun made a mental note to remember his son's name, "then did Dr Park mention who Jeongwoo's fa- oh I mean, if they have any other relatives?"

"Not that we know of.. Dr Park seldom share about her personal matters actually."

The door to Chaeyoung's office suddenly opened, and Chaeyoung was surprised to find a particular, unfamiliar figure in her office.

"Oh, Dr Park, you are back. I left the patient's document on your table, I shall go off now." the nurse bowed before leaving the office, leaving Jaehyun and Chaeyoung behind.

As if knowing his parents could be awkward, Jeongwoo suddenly tried standing on Jaehyun's lap, hands stretched out towards Chaeyoung, "Mummy, mummy.." It was obvious that Jeongwoo truly missed his mum.

Chaeyoung then rushed towards Jeongwoo and carried him, hugged him very close to her and took a deep breath, breathing in her son's scent which she had missed dearly. Chaeyoung was getting all emotional with his reunion with Jeongwoo, but Jeongwoo did not seem to realize as he was all smiles in his mother's arms.

"Oh, my sister was saying that the items you brought yesterday might not be enough, so I came to get more.." Jaehyun started speaking after a while. As much as he wouldn't like to interrupt Chaeyoung and Jeongwoo, he still needed to start speaking to Chaeyoung.

Chaeyoung was a little surprised with what he said. Before she came to the decision to look for the Jung family for help, she had considered what their reactions would be. They are a rich and powerful family afterall. A lot of scenarios went through her mind previously. They might not believe her, call her a scammer who wished to cheat their money. They might give her a sum of money to send her and Jeongwoo away, so that the two of them will not be a hindrance of Jaehyun's bright future. They might keep Jeongwoo with them and send Chaeyoung away, refusing her of her rights with her son. But whatever the scenarios were, having Jaehyun waiting for her in her office, asking for Jeongwoo's belongings in a warm tone was not one of those she had imagined.

Recovering from her surprise, chaeyoung then replied, "Oh, ok... I can pack some for you now." Chaeyoung then passed Jeongwoo back to Jaehyun, before packing some diapers, milk powder and grabbed a few toys in a hurry.

Jaehyun watched her while she packed, wondering what she had been through, what she was thinking. There was a hint of sadness in her eyes when she passed Jeongwoo back to him earlier. Did she misunderstood that Jaehyun was here to snatch her son away? If that's the case, he had to explain, he definitely did not have the intention.

While she was packing, there was a knock on her office door. The nurse who came in earlier reappeared again, but this time round, more flustered, "Dr Park, there's an emergency and the other doctors are asking for your help."

"Okay, I will come over."

Chaeyoung then turned to Jaehyun and pass him the items she had packed, "here are some of the items he might need. There are some toys which he liked. They might keep him occupied and he might not ask for me."

Chaeyoung then walked over to her table to grab a paper before writing her address and contact number, "If you need more of his items, you can come over to my place and collect them when you are free. Otherwise, you can call me and I can send them over to your house too."

Jaehyun took the paper from Chaeyoung and stared at it, seemingly in deep thoughts.

Seeing how Jaehyun wasn't responding to her yet, Chaeyoung continued, "I got to attend to the emergency now, so I leave first, alright?"

Jaehyun looked up and saw that Chaeyoung was about to leave, he then grabbed her elbows without much thoughts, he himself also a little shocked by what he did.

Chaeyoung turned around and looked at him with a confused look.

"You look really tired, remember to get some rest." That was all Jaehyun could force out of his mouth after seeing Chaeyoung looking at him. She was really beautiful, but beneath the beauty lies a complicated mix of emotions - sadness, exhaustion and many more, anything but happiness.

Chaeyoung blinked her eyes a few times in surprise, looked away for a brief moment before returning her gaze to Jaehyun, "I will, I have two days off after today."

With that, Chaeyoung left her office.

Jaehyun then looked at Jeongwoo who was looking at his mum walking away. His excited eyes now replaced with dull and sad eyes. Jaehyun then tightened his hug around Jeongwoo, "Jeongwoo ah, your mum is busy now, we visit your mum again when she is free, alright?" Jeongwoo seemed to understand what Jaehyun said because the hint of disappointment in his eyes seemed to disappear.
