The next day, Jaehyun went to Chaeyoung's house. He knew that Chaeyoung would be at home since she mentioned she would be on two days leave.
Chaeyoung was a little surprised by his visit. Upon entering her house, Jaehyun observed her place to be simple and small. It was more like a shelter rather than a home. Other than some of the toddler's items, everything else seemed too simple.
"It's hard to imagine a doctor living this kind of life.. I guess Jeongwoo's condition must have taken a toll on you and your finance?" Jaehyun asked.
"I have been an orphan, so I am used to living such a life."
Jaehyun hummed, before getting down to the purpose of his visit, "anyway, yesterday I left in a hurry. I don't wish for you to misunderstand, but I have no intention to snatch our son away from you," Jaehyun's words, especially how he said 'our son', caught Chaeyoung's ears.
Jaehyun continued, "I simply wanted to make sure I am a good father to him, so that he has both his dad and his mum in his life. So don't worry about losing Jeongwoo, in fact, we will see each other more often now, so I hope you will get used to my presence."
Chaeyoung nodded. She was touched by his words but she didn't show it.
"Oh.. and Jeongwoo missed you a lot. Since you are not working today, how about you come over to my place and visit him? You can also have dinner at my place tonight."
After some thoughts, Chaeyoung agreed. Reason being, she wanted to visit the Jung family to ensure that they are treating Jeongwoo well too. This way, she would be more assured to leave her son with them.
That night, when Chaeyoung turned up at Jaehyun's house, Jeongwoo immediately stretched his arms out, asking for Chaeyoung. Chaeyoung rushed over and carried him over from Jaehyun's mum's arms. She hugged him tightly and gave him endless kisses on his cheeks. Anyone could tell how much Chaeyoung actually missed Jeongwoo and the deep bond between them.
Jaehyun's mum then signaled for Jaehyun to spend more time with Chaeyoung and Jeongwoo, leaving the three of them in the living room. She wished to create opportunities for this young couple to bond.
When it was almost time for dinner, Yeri reached home. She was excited to see Jaehyun home with Chaeyoung so she greeted excitedly, "Oppa! Sister-in-law!"
"I am not your sister-in-law." Chaeyoung did not want to be rude so she replied in a gentle tone.
To which, Yeri was not at all offended, she simply turned to Jaehyun, "Oppa, see, you need to work harder for Chaeyoung unnie to acknowledge you!"
Leaving no time for the couple to respond, Yeri turned her attention to Jeongwoo, "Chaeyoung unnie, pass Jeongwoo to me and make yourself comfortable at home."
Before Chaeyoung could react, Jeongwoo already stretched his hand out and pounced into Yeri's embrace, "wow that's my good nephew. Come let's go get some toys for you."
The truth is, Yeri walked away to give some alone time to Jaehyun and Chaeyoung too. It seems like the entire Jung family was supportive and hoping for something good to happen to both of them. Being lawyers, Jaehyun's parents have been good at reading people. They had a good impression of Chaeyoung especially after knowing what she had been through.
"Don't mind my sister, she has always been like that." Jaehyun turned to Chaeyoung, hoping that she wouldn't feel uncomfortable because of Yeri.
Chaeyoung then gave a small smile, "it's okay"
After a few moments of awkward silence, Jaehyun walked off hurriedly as if he was reminded of something. He came back and gave a set of keys to Chaeyoung, leaving chaeyoung with a confused look.
"So that you can come to my house and visit Jeongwoo whenever you want."
"I don't think it's appropriate-"
"My mum insisted, and it's totally appropriate. You are Jeongwoo's mum afterall."
Seeing how persistent Jaehyun was, Chaeyoung accepted the keys and thanked him. Jaehyun simply returned a smile, showing his charming dimples. He was truly happy to be making baby steps in his relationship with Chaeyoung.
